Yesterday i met some friends for lunch. One of my friends bought along a friend of hers, "megan" - Ive met her maybe once or twice.
Anyway, i was busy packing jacksons bag, and "megan" began putting jackson into his car seat. I went out of the room to wash my hands and Jackson began screaming like ive never heard him before. i ran in and my friend said to megan:

"You pinched him" and she said
"NO I DIDNT!!!!, i didnt do anything!!!!!!""

. i picked him up to soothe him and another friend walked in and said WOW i didnt know babies screamed like THAT!" and i said "thats because its his hurt cry"..
anyway, it took me about 10mins to calm him down, we went off to lunch and that was the end of it,

i got home last night and my friend had left a message that said :

"hey, id just thought id let you know, in case jackson is unsettled tonight, megan HAD actually clipped jacksons thigh into his carseat clip - i didnt want to embarrass her and cause a scene by saying something, she was obviously too embarrassed to say something. anyway, i hope hes ok, "

I AM SO MAD!! and i have been all day. i dont know why either? I mean, it could have happened to anyone, and im a very forgiving person and realise that accidents happen.. so why am i so mad with this woman?!
i know it must have been awkward for her as well as she didnt know me...
do you ladies feel the same when someone accidently hurts your child?
and is it just me or has this woman completely taken advantage of the fact that jackson cant talk yet

When Lucy was about 4-5 months old, I passed her to Mum at church and she passed her down the row to my sister, who then passed her down to my nephew. (Grrr!!! I don't like playing pass the baby personally).

Well anyway Lucy dropped something, and nephew bent over to pick it up and banged her head really hard against the pew in front. She really screamed, and wasn't a happy camper.

I was so annoyed initially, especially since I hadn't passed L to nephew.   Nephew was very embarrassed and upset. Then I remembered a few years back when I was babysitting for my sister (nephew's mother). I was walking through a door with my niece and banged her head on the doorframe. It was totally accidental, just like my niece's incident with my daughter, and I felt hugely embarrassed by it.   Once I put it into perspective I realised the situation was really no different and my nephew deserved to have some grace shown to him.

It's normal to feel mad, but accidents do happen also. The fact that she didn't own up to it would have been annoying, but I suspect like your friend said, that she was probably embarrassed about it too.

I would be really mad that someone had hurt my baby - but at the same time I would feel hugely embarrassed. I would probably have said something though - "I'm so sorry but I accidentally hurt his leg when I was putting the clip on" or something like that. If someone told me that they'd done it, I would say that it was okay and leave it at that.

When I was 16 I banged my nieces head on the car door frame putting her in the car. I was so horrified, I cried more than she did. My SIL spent more time consoling me than her daughter.

She wasnt mad at me, she realised it was an accident. But I know if I had kept it a secret from her and she found out she would have been MAD!

I would say she was embarrassed, but she should have told you.

I'd be mad too just because of the fact she didn't own up and apologise at the time. Accidents do happen and most people would be more forgiving if they could see someone was truly apologetic. Embarrassment is no excuse for not owning up.

Yeah and horrible as it is when your child gets hurt it does sound like it was an accident and if she doesnt know you that well she was probably horrified and didnt know what to do.

I once opened the car door at a petrol station and Kellz's Isla fell out smack onto the concrete The worst thing was that it was me that told Kellz to put her there while we filled the car up coz she was grumping about being in her carseat. I was mortified, I felt so embarrassed!

So yeah, it doesn't feel good to do something that hurts someone else's kid, but I'd still own up to it, I'd feel too guilty not too.

Why are you mad?

Cause your baby was hurt - as a mother you feel you are the total protector from hurt and pain for your baby and he was hurt and upset. So you are upset. totally understandable and normal

Although i do agree Megan should of owned up to what she did - even if she wasn't sure she could of said 'I think i might of caught his leg' etc...

Hmm, only 'megan' lied.. Also, she was confronted in such a way about it, so it could have caused a 'protection' response form her ie. wanting to protect herself from a percieved threat to her safety.. I mean, your the baby's mother, and she doesnt know you well.. Perhaps she thought that you would uncontrollably angry that she has inadvertantly hurt your child..

Granted she should have owned up and apologised later....
