well was doing some research today, and seems you should be taking 400mcg of folic acid. Pregnacare only has 150mcg per tablet. So does any other one out there have all that you need. Seems a bit annoying and silly to advertise that you are a pregnancy viatmin and not have all the stuff you need. OK feeling a little grumpy about it, especially as there is another unopened bottle in the cupboard

thats weird, I posted this then it said I was over the post limit for the time period, but it still posted it

Hey chook, there is one advertised at the moment - Elavit I think it's called...it has 800mcg of folic acid.

I think you get it from health stores.

thanks sweets! Will see out my pregnacare and go from there. Checked my B multi after ranting and it has folic acid (funny that given it falls in the B group) in it as well, so could double up for awhile i guess

I looked into Elevit and Pregnacare on Sunday. The packs of pregnacare came with a free bottle of folic acid (300mcg), the pregnacare itself had 150 mcg as you said, but you need to take 2 tablets daily, which would bump it up to 300 mcg, so you would have to take 2 of the folic tablets aswell, which would give you more than you need. Elevit has 800 in each tablet, so you only have to take one tablet verses pregnacare with 4 tablets. I don't think I would remember to take 4 tablets daily so went with Elevit, the catch being that they are more expensive but I have a better chance of remembering to take them lol. Sorry for the long winded reply!

   Hi Sarah,

If I recall correctly, the Ministry of Health recommends taking 800mcg of folic acid if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, so that's what I've always gone with. I realise you are still TTC, but it can't hurt right? I am an Elevit fan too btw, and they are expensive by comparison to others - but IMO worth it for bubs.

I picked them up for the local pharmacy and they were $35 for 30 tablets, Pregnacare was $25 for 60 tabs, but you need 2 daily. My diet is not the best at the moment, so although its expensive I think its worth the investment.

Right, Elevit it is. Have another month on pregnacare, unless Mrs Paws wants it...
