Topic: Question...... Posted: 25 June 2008 at 12:34pm |
Blake last night got served up what we did....He got given it in his highchair..(like normal).
Mark and I got ours as Paige wasnt home so had it with him....thought nice idea!
Anyway..Blake did NOT touch anything on his plate instead kept looking over at Daddys and wanting to get out then proceeded to throw everything bit by bit on the floor...So I got him out ...of course he went straight over to Daddys who promptly started to give him some of his...I said NO and moved him away and said "You didnt eat yours so you have none"....DH looked at me slightly odd as we have been known to give him stuff of our plate if different....but his was exactly the same...
Blake then proceeded to have a big screaming melt down ...I picked him up and put him in the hallway and shut the door...DH looked at me oddly again and said he was sad that Blake had to be in the hallway..
What would you have done???????

I think you did the right thing. It's a really bad idea to substitute food if they won't eat dinner, my aunty did it with her kids and now they are the most fussy eaters (like don't like marg, like cold ham but not cooked ham, mashed potatoes but not roasted etc etc). Good on you for sticking to your guns on it.

i cant remember how old blake is, but if he is used to eating off daddys plate and wasnt told that tonight was different cause he had the same then it may have been a bit harsh. by giving him food off your plates you have set the expectation up in him and if he then isnt allowed it may seem a bit unfair to him.

i agree bizzy.......it might be a good idea to not feed him off your plate anymore and explain to him that his food is on HIS plate and he's to eat all of it, or show him the amount you expect him to eat.
but in regards to your DH....... he should be backing you up and supporting you! if our kids don't eat what's on their plate, they go hungry....simple as that! if there's tantrums and food throwing, they get a warning and then on the naughty seat........we don't have that problem though, charli is a pig

Hmmm yes...I guess we need to from now on have no "sharing" of our plates....I knew it was a bad thing to do when we started it...Its one of those "bad habits" that started with his GREAT grandparents and then we all did it....now its created a monster...esp when he wont eat exactly what we are having off his own plate :(

these things all seem like good ideas when we first start....
i think hubbys are a bit like kids tho, they need to be given lots of notice of changes before they understand...

I do agree with Bizzy that if it's ok every other night, then why not tonight - might be a tad confusing.
But under normal circumstances - I would have done the exact same thing (and do!). If she doesn't want what's on her plate (usually the same as mine) then she gets down from the table and leaves me to eat in peace (or at least that's what I tell her - she usually sits on the floor screaming "BAD MUMMY! NOT NICE!)
I offer her the meal a couple more times over the course of an hour or so, if she still refuses it - then no dinner!
