Topic: Health Insurance - NZDF help please Posted: 09 July 2008 at 12:34pm |
I want some help from people that have Southern Cross Health Insurance and get through their the NZDF scheme please
I have just received in the post a thing for Southern Cross about the NZDF scheme and how we get reduced rates. I have insurance with them (since 1984 ) and the boys are on the policy but Nigel isn't. Does he need to join the policy to get the benifits??

I'm not sure Becks. I didn't even know that DF personnel got reduced rates . But then again my DH is terrible & never tells me anything so I'll have to interrogate him tonight.
DH doesn't have health insurance but most things seem to be covered by the DF. If he needs to go to the doctor he goes to a navy one (not that he ever goes). There are dentists & optometrists on base. If he ever needed to go to hospital he'd go to the naval one. He got his 4 wisdom teeth out at the hospital which must've saved us a small fortune .
Maybe emz will know more than me.

DH has a Southern Cross No Claims policy where he.
As all his medical needs are covered by the NZDF, he got it so when he gets out he's covered for any pre-existing conditions.

Dh doesn't have it, didn't even know they had one.
They seriously get pretty much everything through the army Becks, DH had his wisdom teeth done, other guys have had all sorts of surgeris, cataracts etc and one of my uncle's mates is being 'looked after' by being kept in employment even though he has Parkinsons and can't do much.
They have a clause that basically states they need to release the guys *ahem sorry personnel (forget there's women sometimes* in the same or better condition than what they came in, obviously aside from aging. So like my DH will get hearing aids before he ever leaves as otherwise they would have to pay him out on a medical discharge.
Do you know how much the reduced rates for a basic plan are? Jack and I have med insurance paid by mum at the moment as we can't afford it otherwise but I'm way too bung not to have it lol but DH doesn't have it.
btw did you get the nice wee pay info recently? I'm going shopping....

Lucky you lot, no one at DH's level gets anymore money for a while.
Sucky. Argh!! NZDF, DH is finally eligible for promotion which would have meant a 5-6k pay rise and a 2k bonus, under the new scheme we'll be lucky if he gets more than 2k. Which means we definatly can't afford to go to Akl as we lose the accommodation supplement of 6k.

We don't get any extra as we are living in the housing area Emz. But Nigel's Commandant has worked something out for us that is different to the rest so we will get that extra money soon. I read the piece of paper and got all confused too.
I think I might have to stay around in Waiouru and go and see in the guy from Southern Cross to see what we can get - I will report back (it isn't until the end of this month).

The new pay thing is confusing, they stuffed DH's paperwork up so its either close to an 8k rise (he's a Lance Corporal and apparently because they've been underpaid for so long they are getting a big rise) or its a 1k rise. I know which one we're hoping for!
Becks - they'll probably be able to work something out for you seeing as you still have your mortgage but had to transfer to Waiouru and live in army housing. Hope they do anyway, the extra 6k would be nice eh?!

The new pay scheme is so confusing eh. Because DH has just been promoted he got a hefty payrise out of that (backdated seniority helped too), but from looking at the paperwork it seems as though his new pay under the new scheme is only $40 per fortnight more than his new pay under the old scheme. Awesome, thanks for that.
Apparently everyone is being paid at the lowest level of their tier until November when they'll be backpaid to their new level though? It's all so confusing.

Oh, but as for the Southern Cross thing, I'd never heard about it for NZDF but I shall grill DH about it when he gets home.
