Following on from Bizzy's post, at what age/stage would you introduce a cup? I'm heading back to work when Lily is 5 months old so she will have EBM during the day (and possibly formula if I can't keep up with her).

If I can avoid the bottle I would be happy. I have a 2yr old that still has a bottle - though admittedly I haven't tried to change it yet.

At what age did you try your babies with cups and how did it work out?

Both of my boys were 10mths when I introduced the cup.

Nyah was alot harder, she had a bottle until she was 2. She would only use a cup on her terms!

If I recall correctly most cups say from 6 months onwards, but there may be a brand/style or 2 out there that have a younger starting age. And at the end of the day it is only a recomendation, one of my friends started her girl on a cup at just over 5 months.

Maya had water from an Avent magic cup with the 3 mth + spout from about 5 mths but refused to take EBM or formula from a cup so when I weaned her off the breast at 10 mths she had to have a bottle.

Keziah has only been using a cup properly for the past month... before that she would blatantly refuse to drink from it, and would just blow bubbles into it LOL (we still use it without the valve part that controls the flow)

We gave her a little bit of very watery juice in it one day and she was a convert Now she has water in it everyday

I started a cup at around 11mos but it's so difficult to watch them to make sure that pouring water out and asking for more doesn't become a sport!! I'd put the 5mo on a bottle for cleanliness' sake.

Yeah I was thinking maybe starting with one of those and as she gets a bit older changing to a sippy cup. She does seem a bit young to understand how a cup works

Thanks
