Topic: Under-charged? Posted: 09 August 2008 at 6:49pm |
If u realised when u got home from a shop that they had undercharged you, would u go back and tell them and pay the difference?
Im talking $20,..I bought salt and pepper shakers for mil and they only charged me the price of one.
I am going to go back and pay the rest on Mon,...but Im not going to tell DH cos he would say to leave it. We do live in a small town tho, and I go into that shop every few weeks! If I was away for home on holiday I wouldnt be going back!
What would u do?

I'm a cheeky... I was at Countdown and not particularly rich that week, anyways waited in line and the checkout and the trainee girl grabbed a $30 pack of nappies and asked me if I needed it in a bag or to put it straight into trolley... I said trolley... and she must have been a bit flustered from the amount of people lining up and didnt scan it on the machine... I got a couple of other groceries free that day... nothing major... but I didn't go back.
I hope no-one noticed her mistake, poor thing. But score for me.

tough call... I'm of the opinion (and this coming from someone that works in retail!) that if they made the mistake then it's just too bad for them.
BUT if it's a small independent store (as opposed to a chain store) and they normally give you really great service I'd be tempted to mention it next time you're in the store.

If it were the store was privately owned and in a small town I probally would have gone back to support them. The amount of businesses that close due to lack of foot traffic is sad.

I wouldn't usually make a trip back but since you shop there regularly, I would mention it next shopping trip and ask them to add it on.

If it is a chain store, don't worry about it. But if it is a stand alone store I would.

I would go back and pay, I dont like the thought of bad karma.
A while back we put petrol in the car and got some pre-pay tops ups for the both of us, they didnt charge us for the top ups only the petrol, I felt so guilty when I realised so made DH ring to let them know and they just said to pay next time we were in so we did and they gave us a box of choccies to say thanks which I thought was a nice gesture.

If they made a mistake then it is their problem not yours. A few weeks back I brought mouthwash for Dh and the guy didn't charged me $13 I am not driving all the back there as I spent about $170 that week.

Depends how much I'm undercharged and how far I have to go to make up for it. There have been a couple of times when I've been undercharged by woolworths online and I always call them to rectify their mistake but if I'd had to drive miles for a few dollar I probably wouldn't bother (similarly if I'm overcharged and have to drive miles for a few dollars I wouldn't bother either).

Well depends on how much it is....a few dollars I wouldn't worry about but anything more I'd let them know and I have before.
And look at the flip side....you'd want your money back if you were badly overcharged....

I dont necessarily agree with thought "if its a chain I wouldnt", everytime stock is lost that puts the price up for everyone else... no matter where you shop. Its not like they just write the loss of, they will recoup where they can!
I would take it back.

We were on holiday and I bought a t-shirt (it was NZ made). They accidentally charged me for a bottle of coke instead! So there was a $30 difference. I went back, but DP thought I was silly - I can't have that on my conscience!
