Topic: Are Pumpkin Patch feeling the recession? Posted: 10 August 2008 at 3:18pm |
I just went to the outlet store at Westgate and got a pair of jeans for Maya marked down from $44.99 to $20.99, which I thought was pretty cheap. But when I went to pay for them they were actually only $10.99!
They also seem to have waaay more stock in their outlet stores and a lot of fairly new stuff (as in Fall '08) being sold in the outlets. Makes me wonder if they are feeling the recession and having to sell stuff cheaper to cope? Or are their retail prices just getting ridiculously expensive and no one wants to pay that much?

yeah I was in the outlet shop in Northcote last weekend and got some pretty good deals- a pair of Jeans for $9.99 and some jogger pants for $6.99. Have also got some good deals in the winter sale atm- got heaps of stuff on sale for summer this year. I made a rule for myself to only buy stuff from PP when it's on sale.... But yes I would imagine that they definitely feeling the recession.

Almost all retail stores are feeling the downturn of the economy... At the moment, we are only in a "technical recession", not a full-blown one...
Which is why sooo many shops are having big sales at the moment. Giving big discounts means people are more likely to go and spend money, but also means they are also betting on selling on volume as well, so they can recoup costs.
They usually only have the absolute lowest price as the cost price of the item, so they break even (remember this when working for a garden centre, and when we had the big new years sale, we discounted plants to the cost price).

I have just had a look at the website and the outlet store online has some good stuff - and you can see if they have the sizes you need from the comfort of you out desk!
I gave up going to the one in Otaki as they never seemed to have the age range I was after!

I dont think I have bought anything fullprice from PP yet (apart from some maternity jeans that I desperately needed at the time).
I love their stuff, but its too expensive to pay full price for.

Yeah we managed to get some really great stuff for Maddie last week...all of it discounted. We were really impressed! We don't normally shop there for full price items either, I generally love their stuff but it is pricey. *sigh*

I usually buy the kids 2 full outfits of new seasons gear and the rest of winter/summer/whatever is made up of outlet and trade me bargains, however, this last season I think I bought Jake 2 jeans and a top and jersey and charlotte a pair of shoes as the prices have all gone up so much, I reckon about $5 to $10 per peice more than usual. Suck. They usually get about $300 or so new full price off me at the start of the season, but not this year, not that I din't have the $, but didn't want to get less for that amount. If you get my drift...

Does anyone else find a lot of the PP stuff quite samey?? I mean that it everything just looks so similar - or is that just the boys stuff?
Which is another point really... How come there is five times as much range for girls as there is for boys?

I think that the PP retail shop sales are just as good as the outlet shop sales at present, but with the addition of a better range. have stocked up on lots of clothes for next winter.
They can't be doing too badly, as I notice a new PP is due to open in Glenfield shortly.

I agree Fats, I usually buy stuff for the girls if I see it and it takes my fancy, but this year I just couldn't justify paying $35 for a cardy for Chiara that will only fit her for a few months, or $35 for jeans for the gremlins. I'm sure they weren't that expensive when Maya was smaller, altho I guess then I only had one child to buy for!
And also agree about stuff being the same Potato, Maya has a pink and white striped dress that I bought new season last summer, they brought the same one out later in navy and white and I've recently seen the exact same dress in yellow and gray in their newer range.

If there is something I like in the new season then I will pay full price for it otherwise I buy at the end of the season. All Kaitlyn's clothes have been brought either at the Botany outlet or at the end of their winter sales. I have got $150 in vouchers that I am dying to use as soon as the spring/summer stuff come in
