Topic: Logistics of working...     Posted: 21 August 2008 at 10:44pm |

This is doing my head in... just trying to get the logistics of it all...

When I go out teaching I will have a 1 year old and a 2 1/2 year old (all going well). Will be working approx 8-4.30 most days, our daycare goes 7.30-5.30 so that's fine.
Question though: what ungodly hour am I going to have to get up in the mornings? Also, what time would you wake the kids up? I know its completely irrelevant at the moment but man I am stressing about this already cos I want to start preparing myself now as I am not a morning person at all!

I get up at 5:30am and leave home at 6:40am.  Michaela stays at home so I'm not too stressed if I don't get her ready but generally I have time to shower, get dressed, do my hair and makeup get her dressed and give her something to eat.  When I'm doing really well I do her hair as well, when I'm doing really badly I give her some food then focus on getting myself ready and leave her in her pjs for her dad to deal with.

The best idea for you is to do some practice runs.  Time yourself and see how long it takes you to get ready and out the door with two kids (once you have two obviously).  Do it a few times and then work out an average and add 20 mins to that.  As long as you're prepared with clothes, nappies, lunches and snacks set out the night before you'll be fine.

My gosh that's early lol. I'm just thinking man I take 45 mins to get ready (incl shower) and if we have to be gone by 7.30 or something... eek. At least I'll have DH home till 7am to help.

Emz I have been wondering the same thing. By the time I get ready and then have to get DS ready I thought maybe I should get up at 5.30am to leave at 7.15am.

I guess we will just have to have things ready the night before to make it easier in the morning but in saying that the last thing I like doing before going to bed is getting the next days preparation started.
 Oh the dilemma

Stupid question: but how long does it take for the kids to have breakfast when they're 1-2 years? can they do it themselves? Man I sound thick lol

I normally get up around 7 in the morning, have a quick shower while DH dresses Ella and then she has b/fast and a b/f and we are out the door by 8. I get everything ready the night before and make sure I have her clothes laid out/nappy stuffed etc ready for DH
Re: feeding themselves b/fast, it really depends on the toddler. Ella is getting pretty good about feeding herself and can now normally feed herself b/fast without any help (although I do have to sit at the table with her, otherwise she gets a bit distracted). Takes her around 10 mins I guess?

OK so I don't have to leave ultra early but I do have to get 4 kids out the door by 8.20am to get Maya to school. School mornings the gremlins have toast and fruit for breakfast coz I can put it on plates for them then they can eat it while I do other stuff like Maya's hair, feed Chiara etc.

When I had Maya at daycare and had to be at class by 8.30am I would get up at 6.30am and get dressed and have breakfast then get her up at 7am and give her a breastfeed then leave and drop her at daycare at 8am and they'd give her breakfast there. I'd shower at night and get all our bags etc. packed the night before too.
