Topic: Recommend West Akl MW pls Posted: 29 August 2008 at 6:25pm |
My SIL is 6wks pg and looking for a mw. The 2 I have recommended aren't able to take her (my mw just had a baby and the other is busy). Can anyone recommend a mw in the Massey (or surrounding) area? Someone that would be good with a first time Mum?
TIA!!

ooh - I was with Maternity Matters also (Heather Donald), and will definitely be using them next time also. I'm very sad to say goodbye to them next week! Would totally recommend them.

I had heard that with Maternity Matters you can end up seeing several MWs. One until you are 20wks, then 1 till you are about 35wks and then another for birth and aftercare. Is this correct? If it is then how did that work for you?
Also is there any mw in this area that she should steer clear of??

You are "assigned" 1 midwife, but because there is a team of them, it just means if your midwife is unavailable you could end up seeing another one as a backup. It's not their intention to make you see more than that...I guess because of the amount of babies being born, you just never know if your midwife is in with another mum who happens to be giving birth the same time as you or whatever. I'd definitely rather have a backup than relying on 1 person alone.
I only met 2 mw the last time - 1 all the way from the beginning and unfortunately she was on leave when I gave birth (which was 2 weeks earlier than expected), so I ended up with the backup.
This time around I haven't seen anyone the whole time apart from Linda who is brilliant. She wants me to meet Heather as a backup though "just in case"..

I was with Maternity matters also and had 1 MW and a "just qualified" the whole way through. I've never heard about only seeing 1 MW until 20wks then being handed over to someone else?!?!?! I certainly wouldn't have been happy with that!
I was with Kirsten Augier when we had Caitlin but she has moved to The Midwives on Godley Road in Green Bay.
I can highly recommend her, she was absolutely fantastic for all of us
I'll definitely use her for #2

Bunny Cummings was my back up m/w, she is fabulous! Awesome awesome lady and very popular amongst West Auckland ladies!!
My m/w was Debbie Ross, I thoroughly recommend her too and will be using her for #2 when it happens! She is quite fond of first time Mums as they just need that little bit extra love and support as they venture into Mummyhood for the first time!

Ditto on Kirsten being awesome, as she was my mw when she was with maternity matters and even though she moved to the other place partway through my pregnancy, she continued with my care all the way through, but unfortunately was not there for the birth.
Kirsten was on leave when I went into labour and I was extremely unhappy with her backup person from Green Bay who ended up delivering my baby. I know many people who were also unhappy with this backup mw. It is only because of this person that I didn't go to Kirsten again in fear of having her as the backup again. In saying that, I am totally happy with Maternity matters.

Ditto Maternity Matters. I was mostly under Heather but saw Linda quite a bit - they ended up both being at my birth. All 3 (Helen as well) provided postnatal care. They were fabulous.
