Topic: How do you sleep? Posted: 07 April 2006 at 5:43pm |
With my first daughter I happily slept on my side. I have never ever been one to sleep on my back at all - I generally hate it but this time I go to sleep with the best intentions of lying on my side and wake up on my back.Every time a coconut. I am sooooo comfortable on my back but have herad its not good?
What can one do???

Hi again Kelpa, have you tried putting a little pillow under one hip? I was awful for sleeping on my back with my last pregnancy & my midwife suggested a pillow as I would wake up really uncomfortable.
This time I'm the opposite...I've been sleeping on my tummy somehow, huge belly & all!

Sleep however is comfortable! If you or your baby were in danger by you being on your back, your body would tell you. Getting a decent nights rest is much more important than worrying about how you're doing it.

since I woke up this morning at 4am and couldn't go back to sleep I'm not the best person to make any suggestions. But I tried the "sleeping on left side with pillow between knees" and actually found it made my hips REALLY sore (never had a prob there before) and like Pixeldust said (sorry I don't know your name) if sleeping on your back was that bad, your body would tell you I personally start on my left side and ALWAYS wake up on my back - no adverse effects so far (unless you count waking up at 4am )
*waffle waffle waffle* SORRY!

Haven't woken up on my back much yet, but am still windind up on my front every now and then - even with this great big belly in the way ! Am a bit more used to at least starting off on my side, and usually on my left because my right shoulder is the one that is the most prone to locking up it seems. I have a tripillow, and it actually has been more useful partly under my head and along my back - if I need anything under my feet / between my legs I just use an ordinary pillow. More often than not though this will end up on the ground ! Still getting the sore hips like Toni has mentioned, but haven't *really* found a good way to relieve that yet.

OH I am soOOO relieved to know others are sleeping on their backs and tummies!!! With cats and pillows and whatever else going on between their legs !!! cute!!
My Golden Retriever would do anything to be able to snuggle up on the bed like that...We would have to move to the spare room!
Waking up at 4am is natures nice gentle way of getting you into that great night feed routine...UGH!!

Ummmm sleep? Not so sure I remember the concept....
Seriously though, Normally start out on the left side with a pillow between my legs, this gets kicked to the floor some time before my first potty break when I normally seem to wake up on my right hand side or back. Get back to bed after potty break...repeat process until time to get up for work!

Badly! I go to sleep on my left side with a pillow between my knees, but wake up between 3-4am with a sore hip and can't get back to sleep no matter how hard I try. So I feel like I am spending every day feeling tired and a little grumpy :-(

Hey there Kelly,
I sleep mostly on my side, but moreso on the tummy. I cant sleep on my back. I just never have been able to all my life. I also try the pillow between my legs and sometimes it helps. I toss and turn all night though trying to get comfortable, Hate it!! I was thinking of getting one of those body pillows. Have heard they are good. Worth a try I guess. Hope you have a great day and good luck with finding your comfort zone in bed.
