So, I have been passing number 2s lots recently (anyone else experience this in very late pregnancy?) and it looks like I now have hemorrhoids.

I am really sorry... this is a gross topic and waaay TMI, but when I wipe it feels like something is hanging out. I also have a couple of lumps down there and it's all really sore.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? I haven't really been able to find much info on the web.

Feeling sad and yuk and miserable.... and even ice cream hasn't helped.

Don't worry. It is so normal. You can get cream that fixes it. Just ask your midwife.

its your body cleaning itself out getting ready, perfectly normal! and your midwife will be able to give you somethng for those. don't be embarressed to mention it to her (she'll see it all soon anyway!!) cause it sounds like its pretty common

Yep pooing more is normal, baby is pushing on your bowels so there isn't much room there. Its not uncommon to get diahorrea (sp?) just before or during labour either as your body clears it out.
It does sound like haemorroids, another thread was around a couple of days ago about them I will bump it for you.

Very common, don't feel bad. Happens to a lot of us!
Now it's my turn for a TMI, but I was told that for any that hang out, see if you can push them back in. Keep doing it and it will apparently help clear them up and the theory is that they will eventually stay in there...as long as there's not too many of them/not too big I think.
Good luck and I second (third?) telling your midwife, she'll have some good stuff for you.

make sure you dont strain on the toilet cause that will make it worse. eats lots of fibre and drink plenty of water to help keep it "loose". if you have them now then no doubt they will be sore with a vengeance after the birth too... so definitely make sure you talk to your midwife...

Thanks guys, and thanks for bumping the other thread. My midwife is away till Monday, hence why I am asking all the experts on here!!

I have been straining.... I am on high dose iron tablets and have been naughty and not taking the stuff to help loosen things up. I have started taking that now, but I am scared to go to the bathroom!

I was just saying today how I had had a relatively easy run with the pregnancy... probably jinxed it!

I so know your pain!!!!! It's awful, embarrassing and really gets you down.

Everyone is right, straining makes it worse. Kiwifruit are a great help. I hear Carbonyl Iron is less likely to cause constipation so i'm on that one.

You can get creams that take the burn out like Anusol or other ones from the chemist (have to check ok with pregnancy though). They will go back up but you just have to be gentle in that whole area. Washing after you go rather than dry paper can be less painful and hygiene is important too as it's not uncommon to bleed a bit.

You poor woman, I soooo know how you feel. They are regular visitors of mine and slightly worse now that I've started iron tablets and have become abit backed up, Lol.

 

Are you able to ask MW to fax a script for you? Im not sure if anusol is subsidised or not but I do know ultraproct is but you can always just by from over the counter Proctesydyl is about $20. 

 

Definately dont strain coz that does aggrevate the little critters and if & when you can lie down with your legs elevated slightly higher than the rest of your body, drink heaps of water. I know #2's is the last thing you want to do but dont hold it in coz your motion could dry up and that would make it harder to pass.

 

I have them right now & since I've started on the iron tablets I have become irregular ( every 2 days now) But once I get the urge I just bite my tongue and go.

 

if they are really painful you can try ice cube's wrapped in a light clean material and place you no where for a temporaray relief and maybe go and buy you some unscented wet wipes....

 

I hope you can get them resolved before bubs decides to come....

Yeah, it's super sucky. And pretty sore! I had to go last night, but it wasn't too much of a drama.

I am taking Lactulose now, which the midwife told me about when I said the iron tablets were making things hard. But I'll speak to her when she is back on Monday about any cream I can use.

Hopefully they go away quickly!

oh instead of ice cubes use ice blocks, those mini popsicles are just the right shape to slip between your buttocks...(wrapped of course).

Oh I forgot about those popsicles, but what a waste, LOL...Mayb get hold of some of those latex gloves and fill the finger bits with water tie them of and freeze them...

oh i so know your pain!

after charli was born i had major problems with hemmies......i was on iron tablets too so my mw also gave me lactulose to help
i had to take a pillow with me whenever i went in the car to sit on....do you have one of those baby donut cushions??

always go to the loo as soon as you feel the need to, don't hold on, it will make it worse

don't strain (obvious one)

use non-scented baby wipes instead of toilet paper!

when on the toilet, sit leaning forward slightly with your knees up (i put my feet on a small step stool)

you can try and push them back in, but i never had any joy with that...lie on the bed, relax and very gently push them back in

Oh Laurie miserable.

I am lucky I got to suffer these pre pregnancy and what others have said is right, drink lots of water and do not strain just makes it so much worse. If you are taking iron tablets then some sort of laxitive is a good idea.

When I went to see the Dr about it the first time, they were able to recommend a really good cooling gel.

Lignocaine or xylocaine gel is what I got and they work really well...

A friend of mine gave me this advice for those first poos after you've had baby, and I have to say it was the best advice anyone gave me as I started doing it before birth due to haemorrhoids.

The best way to push, without pushing is to make a fist and blow into your fist.
Sounds silly, but it actually uses the same muscles as if you are going toilet.

I had 3rd degree tear so doing it this way prevented further injury.

They're really unpleaseant.
Luckily (hah!) I got them about 6 weeks after Hannah was born and Anusol cleared them up within 48 hours. But I found I had to use it again about 4 days later as they'ed flared up, so I stuck with it for a week, even though they'd cleared up within 48 hours, and I haven't had them back.

I hope they clear up before bubs comes

Ouch, this brings back memories I had nasty ones quite early on in my pregnancy and they would bleed when I had a BM but they settled again. Then after I had lil miss I was in the shower at Birthcare and I felt one hanging out a bit so I pushed it back in. I haven't had any more probs since - touch wood!
