Would you qualify for student accommodation, not sure about AUT but Massey has units/flats available for mature/adult students.
What will you be studying?
Where would you want to live?
I've heard the new bus link service is really good, it runs from Albany all the way to the city.

When I went to AUK- Akoranga campus ( on the shore), there was studebt accomadation but it was shared- you had a room each on a floor with 13 pepople in total,...and as far as I know there was no student houses owned by the uni around there, but heaps of people rented quite cheaply in northcoat (the suburb that the uni is in),..but its probalay expensive now tho,...I graduated in 2000!
There was no daycare there then either, but there was a school really close.
Sorry thats not really any help!!

There is daycare on campus at AUT, I work there...but the waiting list is really long, you would want to get on it about a year before you needed it, and we are awesome.....

Rental properties are easy to come by BUT the prices are astronomical for a reasonable sized house... We've been looking for a long time and are still to find something that is suitable for our needs

Look on Trade Me to get an idea of rental costs. We pay $400 for our 2 bedroom unit but we are in Takapuna. Around AUT Akoranga is cheaper but to be honest you wouldn't want to live too close to campus as the neighbourhood is pretty rough.

wont be going for anything really flash or anything just a average 2-3bdrm non dodgy area lol.
down here rentals are around $280 for a 3bdroom in a wayyyy dodgy area to 380+ for a good area

We pay $400 for a 4 brm but that's on the cheap side for a house this size(probably coz the house is falling down around our ears ). Our last place was a 3 brm and we paid $320.
And yep, I'd put Jett's name down now...

There are some nice parts of Northcote that would be close enough to AUT (ie within 5mins drive) I found this one on TM - http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Property/Residential-Property/Houses-to-rent/auction-167530243.htm its really close to AUT and on a nice-enough street.
