Topic: New to forum, TTC, 2MC Posted: 22 September 2008 at 10:34pm |
I am new to this site or any forum ever, but have spent the last few days reading as much as I can. My husband and I concieved end of last year whilst I was on the pill - although had missed a few. Very happy however miscarried early jan at 10 wks. I was told I didnt need D&C as most had bleed out, but in May I had D&C as still hadnt had period and felt very hormonal with positive urine tests and slow dropping HCG. After D&C had a period a few days later and then fell preg straight away. MC at 5 wks, didnt know preg till mc. First MC was spotting, cramps, bleeding over a few weeks, 2nd mc was strong cramps and clotting over 1 day. I was counting days between periods to try and see what my cycle was. 2nd mc was at day 34. At the A&E my Urine test was still negative, but the foetus was sent away and showed +ve preg. I then had another bleed at day 31 which I never showed as being +ve but was bright red bleed with bit of cloting. So possible 3rd MC, but not confirmed. Unable to go to Recurrent MC clinic until 3 confirmed MC. I paid to go to a specialist and have had a number of blood tests, so far all good, Karotype test we get back this week. My hubby and I meet with Specialist Thur. I am soo frustrated etc. I am trying to chart Mucus, but its all over the place, well seems to be later than day 14 and this month wasnt much. Now am day 28 and bit of mucus like they say you should have around ovulation. Nipples sore and a bit sicky one morning, but maybe due to overseas travel and not eating due to hot weather - dehydrated etc. I also exercise a lot. Its only been 1 year since first preg, but 2 (maybe 3) mc and I am soo frustrated. I have cut back on my sport (semi professional) to TTC but this is not happening. I am sick of being told, keep trying, it will happen, well at least you can get preg etc. I feel I have no one to turn to. My friends have either got preg easy, never had MC or been preg and my mother has very ill health so trying to keep things from here. My nipples have been erect since first preg. I get crampy tummy on one side around days 23 - 28 and think maybe preg, but then bleed and poss period. I dont really know where to go - I am very impatient. I was going to preg test today, but think getting a -ve would be too upsetting. Friends say stop thinking about it, but very hard when your body constantly sends reminders, or each time you go loo you are checking for blood, your monitoring your days, etc etc. Any advice tips. There is soo much on this website and I am slowly getitng through it all. Its nice to read that I am not alone, and that there are a lot of you having success.... I really wish I can have a baby soon. My hubby is 31 and I am 30. Both fit and healthy. My only downfall is chocolate and cafinne....trying to decrease this. Appreciate any feedback, and sorry for the long blog!

Hugs, I don't have much useful advice, just wanted to give you some cyber hugs and let you know you're not alone. TTC and pregnancy after loss is a real rollercoaster and there are quite a few of us here who have been thru it, hopefully someone else will have something more useful to add.

Big hugs from me too. I wish I had some amazing advice to offer but not really, just hugs and supporting vibes
It sounds like you have really noticed your body has changed since MC - nipples, different crampy feelings, etc. I think that is completely normal from what I've read, I experienced body changes like that too. They are sure confusing for TTC though, but a big part of me still welcomes them as it helps me feel more connected to having been pregnant.
And it is so hard to stop thinking about all this, no matter what friends and family say!

I know it is frustrating. The only advice I can offer is if you are having trouble with monitoring your ovulation through mucous there are ovulation test kits you can buy which are fairly cheap. Through using these I discovered I am not ovulating till day 25 of a 33 day cycle - which we think is why I keep miscarrying. Countdown and Woolworths sell them for $25 which I think isnt bad to put your mind at ease.
Good luck.

Hi Bree,
I have had 2 mc's and gave birth to a Baby in May (she passed away) (stillborn).
I know how frustrating pregnancy can be and all the worrying we as woman go through.
I orginally went to Recurrent Pregnancy loss clinic, if you get a referral from you GP you are allowed to go there.
Keep in mind, they only see you until there is a heartbeat then you have to find a OB or midwife, they don't see you all the way through.
At that point I wanted the best so we went to a provate specialist.
I am now 9 week pregnant with my 4th pregnancy.
I got an ovulation kit from Life pharmacy for $34 there were 10 test kits, I would recommend them.
Also if you want to see if you are ovulating ask you GP for a scan, I had one to see that I was ovulating and it was amazing, you got to see my ovary and then the egg getting ready for release, 3 days later I was ovulating.
There are so many things that you can do, I found the temp and CM charting terrible, that didn't work for me.
I went and got a maybe Baby, I found this was the best thing ever, it gave you an accurate reading and it gave you loads of warning that ovulation was approaching.
I wish you all the very best.

Thanks for all the replies. I know I am not alone and at times I feel like kicking myself to say wakeup there are people worse off. Today was a bad day and I just burst into tears, nearly went and brought a preg test and felt quite puffed and very sensitive nipples, but only day 29 and I think my period is a bit longer cycle. Am seeing a specialist tomorrow for blood test results and a plan of action - excited but also scared he is going to say everything is fine and just carry on as I have been.
JHS - I'll def go get an Ovulation test Kit - is this what they are called, or are there different/better brands?
Keen to hear from anyone who has had a couple of miscarriages and there stories - good or bad!
Thanks everyone

Hi Maude - I have just read your reply and feel bad I have been upset when you have been through far more. I can imagine you are on tenderhooks as well. I have a maybe Baby which I used at the begining of the year, however this was after my first MC and I got false readings as my body was all over the place. I havent started to use it again, as I just felt depressed - maybe I should start!
I'll let you know how specialist goes tomorrow (we are paying private as well). I hope this current pregnancy of yours goes well. Thanks

Thanks Bree,
& do not be silly, Anika is the filling of our heart, she just isn't here to spend her life with us, she is upstaiors with my Grandmother, who I know is looking after her.
Oh of course, the maybe Baby would be giving you strange reading with all those hormones in your body.
You just do whatever you think is right for you and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
This is your time Hun, relax, enjoy and all the very very very best.
Can I ask what specialist you are seeing?

Simon Kelly, at fertility associates and also been reccomended to Paul Robinson at Origins in Mt Eden in Auckland.
I'm worried I will go to see them and they will say there is nothing they can do - if all my blood tests come back normal, then they say just keep trying. Apart from my first MC when I knew I was preg, the 2nd (and 3rd unconfirmed mc) occured around day 31 so I didnt even know I was preg. I keep thinking each cycle I am preg, but then no. Symptoms nipples pointing out and sensitive, tummy cramps. Boobs not sore though. So today day 29 and this is how I feel, but scared its period due. I dont know my normal cycle as 12 months prior to first +ve preg I had no period due to the type of pill I was on.
Very frustrating....

Oh man I can understand your frustration.
You know they will tell you tomorrow that if the results come bac normal that is good news.
Don't get depressed by this I was told that and that was after i had Anika examined and every test done imaginable on her.
You know sadly mc is just one of those things some of us have to go through and unfortuantly its the ones who would do anything for a baby and to become a mother.
I see Neil I was under Richard Fisher who is just lovely, he treats you like some body and not just another patient. Neil is lovely as well I see him every 10-14 days for a scan and a check up.
They are expensive at the end of the day if they can help you get to the final stage then it is totally worth it. (also Fertility Associates)
I did the same thing, I am pregnant?????? All symptons point YES, but then no nothing.
Good Luck for tomorrow, I hope everything goes well and you can get some answers but if you don't don't get upset just take everything onboard and carry on. You know your bosy at the end of the day.
Let me know how you get on, I will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Just been to the specialist and all blood tests returned normal. One was slightly high (11), apparently if under 20 its ok, but should be closer to zero. Specialist said I could take baby asprin once I know I have concieved, but prob is last 2 MC I havent know - MC at day 31 and 34. Today is day 30. I tried running last night and out of breath and felt yuk, so stopped thinking I might be preg. Specialist gave me a blood test form and sent to do this on day 35 if no period. Anyway I did a urine text and def BFN. So depressed again! Specialist said I just have to keep trying and if I havent concieved early next year go back at see him....just really really frustrated and upset today.....
I burst inbto tears this morning and had an argument with hubby as well. He really wants kids but says just be patient. Dont think about it. hard when every day I have to monitor boobs, nipples, CM, blood color, period, tummy cramps etc. arghhhh

oh hun that sucks, of course you're at the end of your tether a bit it's all such a rollercoaster.
Was the slightly high result for clotting antibodies? That is why I'm on baby aspirin since the last MC. My result for that was within the norms too but on the high side (can't remember what it was). Hopefully that will help things a lot, it has helped other people I know delivery healthy bubbas.

Correct I am sure he said it was for the antibodies. He said over 20 considered a problem, mine was 11 and the blood lab had labeled it as H apparently for High. Still waiting for AF, nipples still very sore and sensitive, otherwise little cramping today. I know there are soo many people worse off than me, but I just feel soo frustrated and "why me"!! I am back to see my original specialist at Fertility Associates tomorrow - long story why I am working with 2 - was due to my first specialist having time off and putting me in touch with another for blood tests, but now back with original tomorrow. Will take results from blood tests and see what he has to say. Its just frustrating as I do not know what my cycle is doing, when I ovulate, if I am actually concieving - have doubts as my 3rd MC was not confirmed by blood test/urine test - if I didnt actually mc 3rd time then I have not concieved for last 4 months......my original specialist said after I meet him for my first MC that if I hadn't concieved after 3 months of trying then he would put me on medication to help me - so unsure what that is....
fingers crossed I get more answers tomorrow as being told to go away today and keep trying and come back next year if not preg has really frustrated me!!
Is this your first preg? How long have you been trying and any MC?

I'm not preggo at the moment (not as far as I know anyway, would be great) but have been preg twice, probably three times. 99% sure had chem preg/early MC nearly 10 yrs ago. Had MC last July, and another this May. Feel like have been trying forever! Will be a couple years at least now, don't want to think about exact length of TTC too much!
Recently I too have started using a MaybeBaby saliva ov tester and charting my temps/symptoms on Fertility Friend. This is helping me work out what my bod is up to (as much as that's possible!). But as for cervix and mucus, I can't seem to work those out so mostly ignore them. Not sure if I get EWCM at all, but then apparently not everyone does?

We'll went back to my original specilist today and much happier - I feel like I was treated like a person and I got answers and feel for the first time in 1 year I am moving foward. I did a urine test yest and -ve, I am day 31 today. I will wait until Monday and then do a blood preg test to see. My nipples are very sensitive, otherwise I have no symptoms, have had on and off cramps, but this has been the same each month since my first mc. If I start my period then I have been given Clomid which will hopefully help me have more control over things and be more closly monitored. I am now going to read the section on clomid, as keen to hear how people have been on this and results etc. My hubby is also going to do a sperm test to rule out this being an issue, otherwise being prescribed clomid at least means I know when I am ovulating, when to do a blood test etc. At the moment I just live day by day wondering what my body is doing. So whilst I do not want to get my hopes up that I am preg at the mo, I do feel happier knowing that if I get a period I can start clomid which I feel is the first step to a baby...fingers crossed something works for me......
I have another urine HPT but the specialist said not to use this, just do blood test monday if no period. I guess if come monday no period, and -ve blood test then I will have to ring specilist again, but am feeling happier today

Fingers crossed for Monday
I did a blood test this morning and am waiting for the results. Missed my period but am on Provera which can stop it coming - negative urine test but doing a blood to be sure.
I just want to get to 20 weeks so I can relax a little!
The cheaper ovulation test kits are first response, and the more expensive digital ones are clearblue.
Good luck
