Topic: Dogs attack Crocodile.... Posted: 19 April 2006 at 6:02pm |
At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.
The crocodile, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the "apex predator" in it's natural eco-system, can still fall victim to a well implemented 'team work" strategy.
This made possible by the tight knit social structure of a dog pack and "survival of the fittest" pack mentality of canines.
See the attached remarkable photograph courtesy of Nature Magazine
Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the croc', preventing it from breathing, while the remainder of the pack holds the beast down until it expires.

i'm very 'puppy clucky' at the moment, have been at hubby to let me get another goldie but he won't cave! damm him!!
he says its 4 legged baby or 2 legged baby, my choice can't do much about it now eh!
we are taking clyde (our goldie) to the breeder lady this weekend for a trim up and she has 1 little girl pup left from the last litter.......tempting times ahead for me!!!!

Jack's Mum - try and remember the chaos of a puppy! Do you really want to go there? The chewing and the toilet training and the digging and the everything else Also ...I think it's a bit like kids ...the mess that 2 dogs creates is exponentially more than 1, and I can't remember the last time my house was quiet!! Mind you, hubby hasn't quite worked out that when we're watching TV, the dogs don't know about ads ...so he rarks them up in the ads for something to do, and then wonders why all hell continues to break loose when the programme comes back on!! Plus, think of the food bill and vets bills and flea and worming and registration costs for two dogs ...
Am I helping put you off?

that's what hubby keeps telling me i know he's right tho
as for the mess, we were so spoilt with clyde, he never ripped up a thing!!! took to toilet training no probs also. but, i have heard that girls are more destructive pups than boys, and with my parents, that certainly rings true!!

Well ..it doesn't hurt to keep working on him gently It took me ages to win mine around ...but in the end he admitted that he just wanted to make sure I was getting a second dog for solid reasons, not just that I wanted another baby animal!
I must say - our first dog (a male Huntaway) was easy as pie - chewed a few things, but not much (just really expensive things when he did!), was really clean about the house, and was toilet trained in a couple of weeks. The second (a female border collie) chewed and dug and buried, took nearly 9 months to toilet train, and manages to collect every scrap of dirt and muck around in her coat and bring it inside!!!!!!!! I was extremely close to going around the twist with the toilet training!

we have a newfoundland and thats just like having another toddler in the house, he is just as big and follows me everywhere more than kobe does. We used to have a lab retriever x but he was not good with Kobe so had to give him away but when he was a puppy he ate our carpet which was actually a good thing cos we claimed insurance on it and were able to re carpet our whole house for bugger all money

That's a brilliant idea Robyn! I need some new underwear ...I wonder what AMI would say if I lodged a claim for the half dozen bras and uncountable pairs of undies that our collie buried in the back yard ...
