Sounds like it could be, and what I've had a number of combined with blisters- unfortunately - but still persit in BFing

I find the following sometimes helps
* A warm/hot shower just before feeding, or otherwise a hot compress
* I always feed on the same side first as it only happens on that one side if he hasn't completely drained or been lazy
*Try to massage the breast before a feed (this is where the shower also comes in handy)
*If mine was really bad, I would end up cringing for the first part of the feed, so sometimes found taking pain relief 20 minutes before the feed helped a bit - I would also (this is going to sound strange) but sit there with my teeth semiclenched 'singing' the same tune - DH always knows when it hurts because if this song
*Check your nipple to see if there is a 'blister' - it sounds painful, but somtimes once this was removed (yeouch) or burst it would allow the milk to drain
* Oh and make sure you have a towel handy for when it goes!

Good luck

I had mastitis when Jack was little and the mw told me to take strog vit C, I think it was 1000c, to help prevent infection. I ended up back in Hosp for a few nights on iv antibiotics as my temp wouldn't come down.

Oh an if possible have baby's chin resting on the hard part of the breast when feeding as baby's chin will help massage the lump
