Topic: Stupid Males. Posted: 30 November 2008 at 5:51pm |
Okay so I just had me a lovely nap (yay) and woke up far too late - was sposed to get woken up.
I walk out into the lounge and go:
me: 'Wheres Thomas?'
matt:'Gone to bed.'
me:'Oh okay, what did you give him for dinner?'
matt:'A bottle.'
me'...no food?'
matt:'No, no food, just a bottle.'
Now. Thomas has been on solids for a few months now and has breakfast, lunch dinner - has dinner at 5pm. What is in in that STUPID head of my STUPID husbands makes him think it's a great idea not to give him dinner? Jesus.. poor wee mite is sleeping now - and no i'm not going to wake him up - but now he's gonna be awake a some revolting hour of the morning wanting food. Why dont they get that not giving a little baby dinner is the same as them not having dinner and then going to bed.. Honestly I could throttle him. He's lazy. Thats what he is.. too interested in playing his stupid computer games.

My sons father used to do that.
Oh and when we were separated he would take Sam for the night and bring him back the next day saying that he screamed all night and he had to give him pamol because he wouldn't settle.
And then I would say, 'Oh did you give him a bottle before bed?'
The answer? No, I thought he had one before I picked him up at 6PM.
Poor little guy went a whole night without a bottle at 6 months old and cried himself to sleep
Men can be a bit clueless sometimes.

MissAngel, if your boy does wake up at a horrible hour, you should make Mr STUPID get up and give him the bottle..That'll teach him

weeeeellll, and yeah i totally do see the point about him and he really should have given little man some food....
BUT, at the risk of being shot down here.....
At least he let you sleep, was obviously probably kind enough to think that maybe he might just do things himself and put baby to bed for you too... that's far far better than some men would do. SOME men would come and wake you up and make you do it, some men might sit around and not even give the baby a bottle or put them to bed without even thinking about doing that... hey at least he gave him a bottle.
If it was me, I'd have said thank-you and reminded him that yeah he should have given baby some food.
Don't shoot him down completely unless you are prepared not to complain about him never even trying to do things, or helping you. cos if you shoot him down now, when he's tried something like this, then you'll lose the chance of him ever doing it again.
Having to possibly wake up to a baby in the middle of the night as a once off of your hubby trying to help but not quite doing it right, is a very small price to pay for him taking time to think of you and deciding to help you out.

Well said M2P.
MissAngel I hope he sleeps well tonight and I really hope that DH offers to let you sleep while he takes care of Thomas again (and next time feeds him).

To be honest I agree with M2P as well.
It is frustrating and I've had a few of those moments with B but honestly it was just 'cos he didn't really realise and he remembered next time so all good.
And as for the number of times we've found out we're doing things differently from each other, well....

I agree, it is annoying when they *should* know how the routine works but if its usually you who does it for Thomas he might have been feeling a bit clueless or overwhelmed.
I think its really nice of him to let you sleep that long and hey, if you do have to get up in the middle of the night to fill an empty tummy at least you'll be topped up on sleep.
I hope Thomas sleeps through for you though!

Haha I guess I'm skeptical about this kind of thing. If it were my DH..the only reason he would have "let" me sleep longer is if he got sidetracked doing something else and forgot to wake me.
Also, I'm of the belief that men do things wrong intentionally just so we won't ask them again...

Hehe, i've always been the opposite, I've always been of the belief that they won't do it again cos they criticised for doing it wrong.... so would leave the room and let mike dress them his weird way.. (Ie, laying out the stretch-n-grow, then picking up baby and placing them on it, whereas i put the arm and leg through one side, then lift baby and slide the other sid eunder etc). Same with learning to put on nappies properly... he soon learnt that he needed to do them up properly and make sure the leak guards were out etc... cos if it leaked from being put on wrong, then he'd have to go through the process of changing them and clothes etc. lol. I just learnt to bite my tongue and thought "well, he'll find out soon enough that it could be done a different way"
It's kind of training them a little. lol, but being kind along the way too.

My DH let me sleep in yesterday morning too, and Jackson has been on 3x solids for quite a while...
Me: Oooooh, wheres Jack? Is he in bed? Did he take his bottle? What'd you give him for breakfast?
DH: Um, a cracker?
But I kept my mouth shut, sure, he couldnt bothered going and defrosting some pureed fruit, or make some baby muesli from scratch. BUT, he let me sleep. Thats a start.
I said thank you, and that usually a cracker is just something to nibble on during the day. And that Crackers arent really something HE would like to eat for breakfast either!

i just find it weird that men aren't expected to be as good as us..i totally trust my Dh with Ethan and if he tried that he would get a boot up the bum..maybe I'm too tough but he knows E's routine and I think it's important he is as involved with E as me.. so Miss Angel I would have been mad too!

Yes, little bits at a time or you'll scare them off, I agree!
I told DH that Id posted about his cracker meal and he said "Oh, well you have never showed me how to make him muesli. I have no idea what to give him for breakfast". So im glad I didnt yell at him the first time.
Next time he has no exuses though

And Kaiz good on you for not telling him off - and that is so cute that he said "Oh, well you have never showed me how to make him muesli"!
