Topic: ? re ear infection Posted: 07 December 2008 at 2:58pm |
Alex has one (only diagnosed this morning) but for a couple of days his ear has been leaking. Doctor didn't say anything about his drum having burst but my Mum thinks that it may have and thats why it's leaking cos it shouldn't if it's just an infection so I rang the surgery back and he hasn't written in the notes anything about drum bursting so I guess what I am wondering is should I be worried that it has or is leaking normal with an infection? I am thinking I might ring our normal Doctor tomorrow and ask one of the nurses but I figure that the best thing, if it is possible his drum has burst, is that we need to get it checked for certain to see if it has.

Hello, my daughter had a lot of ear infections when a baby, she was on antibotics and her ear never leaked. It sounds like a burst eardrum but then I have no medical background. I would definitely get his ear checked out. Hope he gets better soon

Whenever Andrew or Josh had leaking it wasn't always because of a burst ear drum (most of the time it was thou). Sometimes it can be because there is a lot of wax and it has finally got a chance to move out of the ear.

The only time Chloe's ear leaked was when her eardrum burst, but I'm not a medical authority!
Did the Dr give you ABs for the ear infection? If so then they should help a burst eardrum anyway. If not, and you are worried, then I would take him back to your regular Dr and have his ears checked again, and mention the leaking.

My girls never had leaky ears but they were only given AB's for ear infections. I think he must have noticed the leaking and that's why you have drops as well.

When Chloe had a burst eardrum, the Dr just prescribed her antibiotics. Maybe the drops were for something extra, like waxy ears or something.

HUNTD could be. We didn't know Alex had his first infection until stuff came out his ear.
bext1 I so know what you mean. Alex is a shocking sleeper at the mo and I have been wondering about his ears as he does play with them when feeding but everytime I go to doc she says that they are a bit red but no need for antibios.
