So it turns out the Midwife was wrong! Babies are not head down at all. They are both in breech position :( Unless they both turned around in the 4 days between my midwife appointment and the scan. They will be running out of room too so at this stage it looks like it may be a c-section. They are both healthy and at 29 weeks they are 3lbs each. Random people at work though keep making comments about how they could come really early. These are people that really have no clue at all. This is my biggest fear and these people making stupid comments really do not help at all! Grrr! Rant over, sorry ladies.

Dont worry Shells - try to ignore what people say, everyone is an expert when it comes to being pregnant and especially with twins - the amount of comments I get from people thinking they know it all is crazy!

They may still turn around - Im 35weeks this weekend and one of my twins (not leading) keeps turning transverse and then breech again, so theres still a bit of room to move around in! Not sure how much they need to do a full flip but Im sure it will be fine :)

Thanks Kels! It really amazes me the comments people make and it's amazing how much they can bother you when your pregnant. Ultra sensitive i guess. Normally i wouldn't care. Yeah fingers crossed they turn. As long as they are healthy i guess it doesn't matter how the enter this world :) I'm slowly starting to relax a bit amd not so hung up on having a "natural" birth. Do they think you will have a c- section?

I was exactly the same through my pregnancy, I knew exactly what I wanted and thought I had it all planned out, but as it's gone on i've relaxed a lot and now just keeping an open mind and realising that with twins anything can happen and as long as theyre healthy then thats all that matters. Have told my midwife - whatever needs to be done for whatever reason - c-sect, epidural etc, just do it. They think i'll be all good to have a natural birth, leading twin has been head down since 28weeks and midwife says based on my first birth with my daughter which was text book theres no reason I cant have the same kind of labour with no issues. But in saying that, Im prepared for everything - the 2nd twin may need turning or I may need a c-sect for some reason...I would really love not to have a c-sect as my partner can only have 1 week off so I'll be on my own after that which would be hard, but if it happens it happens.

Kels, you're so close!!! I hope all goes well for you. Leading twin was head down for me and the second one breech. They both got out the natural way, though twin two came with the legs first. All went well. Good luck also to you Shells. Whatever anyone says, any pregnant with twins lady knows we count the days to get as far as possible to give our babies the best start.

So close it's all I can think about - it's making me loopy I'm so excited!

Just saw my midwife and the 2nd twin has now turned head down too so looking good! Hope she stays that way, she has been moving all over the place! She said my stomach is softer which means less fluid so doesn't think it'll be long now. She didn't do a sweep, said we'll wait till next week and do one if they don't at my hospital appt...

Hi All,
I'm new on here, currently almost 21/40 with Di-Di twins. It seems like there's a few supermums here, and I think I'm going to have to be... I am wondering if you have any advice on two things:
1. I'm planning on moving from Christchurch to Hawkes Bay at 34/40... should I be more realistic and move earlier? I'd be able to have the removalist pack and move our things, also my car, but given twins are more likely to come early, should I perhaps be already in Hawkes Bay?
2. I'm potentially going to need to fly to Sydney at the start of Feb, the twins could be as little as 4 weeks old. It would be just me and the twins flying... am I dreaming this could happen?
Any advice would be great,
Mel

Hi Mel, welcome and congrats.

I would say yes you probably want to be unpacked and settled by about 30-32 weeks just in case. Things can change so quickly with a multiple pregnancy. In my case I was at work one minute and in hospital the next, with babies born a week later at 33+6.

I know of a few people who have carried their twins to near term and have gone straight on the ward with the babies after they are born, then home a day or 2 later but I know far more who have had premmies who have been in hospital for several weeks.

My girls were completely fine with no health issues but we still had an 18 day stay in hospital until they were big enough and feeding well enough to come home.

Hi Mel

Congrats on the twins! I'm 21 weeks with mono/di twins so pretty close to you :)

I've been told that you can't fly with two babies on your own. Just airline policy unfortunately. I think it's allowed once they turn 2.

Actually, just checked the info with an airline, and looks like some airlines will allow you to take more than one child under 2, but you need to buy a seat for at least one of them. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi Mel, welcome and congrats! I moved house at 24 weeks and it was pretty hard, even though i had lots and lots of help. If i were you i would make sure your settled before 34 weeks. I'm 30 weeks now and have just finished work. Things are starting to get hard now. You will be surprised how quickly things become harder. I was feeling great before our move but since then i'm feeling less and less comfortable. In saying that the health of our babies is great and i've had no problems at all but i think it's important to listen to your body :)

Hi Mel, Congrats on your twins!! I'm 36weeks at the moment with Frat girls, and if I had of had to move house 2weeks ago there is no way I could've managed it. There is the risk with twins that they come early, and I dont know about everyone else but for me at 34weeks it was hard just walking, let alone moving house, so I would say you would want to be all in and settled by then so you can relax a bit

I have looked into flying with babies as we are going to Oz when they are 12-16weeks old and when booking our tickets I noticed that some airlines wont let you travel with 2 if you're on your own, so may pay to have a look around and see which airlines allow it. All the best!

Just had my 36week scan and based on babies measurements they are estimated at 2.7kg(6lb) each! Have a sweep tomorrow and hospital appt so will have a better idea of how it's all going. Eeeek not long now! Can't believe I've kept them in this long!!

Hi All,

Thanks for your advice, it really helps to hear it from people who have/are experienced/ing twin pregnancy first hand, makes decisions so much easier.

T_pup - nice to have made contact with someone around the same number of weeks as me, I haven't met anyone pregnant with twins down here yet (but have a good friend here with a singleton pregnancy so I'm not completely alone).

Kels152 -wow, 36 weeks, all the best for your appointment tomorrow.

I have my anatomy scan on Wednesday, I'm pretty excited about it, I can't wait to see them again and find out what sexes they are.

I keep checking back as I am curious whether there any baby news from Kels! I must say though, that it took me a week before I was able to post again after my twins were born. And that was from SCBU, in hindsight, I am surprised that I managed to post at all. But our July 2010 thread was really close at the time and we all had buddies that we were texting from hospital so they could post baby news on the page. So I was keen to find out how everyone else was getting on and sharing my news.

No baby news here Hibiscus! Don't think they want to come out! I had a sweep on Tuesday & midwife said my cervix was already soft and she was able to stretch it to 3-4cm which she said was a good sign. After my sweep had my show & regular B/H for the rest of the day, some contractions that night which were 15mins apart for a couple of hours but then fizzeled out to nothing. And still nothing! Waiting waiting waiting. Midwife said she thought it would def happen before Friday but it hasnt.
Will have another sweep on Tues if still nothing, and Im booked in for an induction in 10days time on the 18th when I'll be 38weeks +2. So I have an end date which is great, but really hope to go before then.

One question I have is I've been told I may need an epidural when I get in there in labour, which is fine by me, but do they mean they will actually administer it when I get there, or will they set it up in case I need it at some stage...?

How you doing Shells? Nice to be off work I bet!!

I was told they would probably administer it so that if an emergency c-section was needed there would be no delays.

Gosh, Kels, they'll let you go that far! I can't imagine you'll get to 38+2 if you already had contractions and had your show. I can imagine you can't wait to have your babies out (if they aren't there already by now!)! All the best!
My impression was they could set everything up for an epi but only inject the drug into the line when needed. And if is has to be really quick they can give you an injection (or so) which gives you a fully blown paralysis all the way down, rather than the gradual one that you get with an epi, or in case of emergency they give you a full anaethetic (sp?) but I must admit I am not fully up to date... anyone?
