mila had a RAST test done to see what shes allergic to and the first part came back. her igE levels are at 10,000 when a non alergic reaction is between 0-60. and a allergic child is usually at 60-2000 the highist my doc has ever seen is 4000, untill milas came along. we are still waiting for the other part of the test to come back telling us what she is allergic to. my question is has anyone alces come back this high. what are they/you alergic to and how many things are you allergic to?

That does seem really high. Will go and check my daughters results, although I know her allergies are mild-mod.

Sorry My boy had the test but result came up with 111 so he has been referred for skin allergy (RAST) test. but this will not be done till 27/1. And as you can see this is minimal compared with your result.

How did you get on with the RAST test? You must have the results by now? Is it a painful test for the little ones?

Mischeif, the bld test isn't much fun. It can be hard to find a vein in babies as they are so fine, so sometimes it takes more than one go with inserting the needle. You're best to go to a lab that is experienced in taking bld from wee ones. We have a good one on the Nthshore. Eva is getting retested tomorrow, which I'm not looking forward too

Thanks kabe... yes found that out... they inserted the needle into the wrong place... and had to redo it. They got a second nurse who seemed more tolorant, to redo the test. It took 3 of us to hold my poor darling.. he is a strong one!

I have the skin allergy (RAST Test) on the 27 Jan..

Wow Chonni your wee one certainly did come up with a lot. It must be difficult keeping her off all of that stuff. I guess its all worth it though!!

How much did the RAST test cost? My little girl has to have one but have been told it is $39 per allergen. That adds up!!!

We had the skin prick test done and Cory is allergic to Wheat, Rye, Eggs and peanuts.

He isnt allowed eggs until he is 3.5 and wheat until he is 18mths.

Have the doctors spoken with you on how to go about all this...i know my didnt and i fumbled through for about 6wks before i found my feet.

if i can help let me know, i have come across some awesome gluten free stuff and recipes. (i have found it easier to go gluten free as most stuff has wheat in it), i have even found a bread that is gluten and egg free which is actually half way decent and doesnt fall apart

That seems crazy! My DD's had the blood RAST test done 3 times now, and we're due for the next one, but we've never had to pay - and she was tested for maybe 10-12 allergens each test. Did your specialist order the test, or was it your GP? If your child needs the test done (i.e. it isn't elective), then you shouldn't have to pay.

As a tip for the blood test, go to the biggest collection centre you can - they're more likely to have staff experienced with taking blood from babies/toddlers.

It was through my GP. He is going to refer us to a specialist but that means waiting 2-3 months on the public system and we need it urgently. Maybe he got it wrong?
We only have one collection place here so I presume they have experienced staff...hopefully.
