Topic: telling hubby/ s o the news Posted: 03 May 2006 at 2:36pm |
how did you girls tell your significant others the news about your pregnancy? this will be our last baby, and i want to tell scott in a really special way. my memories of the last time are lots of crying, how did this happen, are we ready for this etc etc. so this time, the planned one, i want it to be fun and loving and full of excitement. so any great ideas for me to take onboard?
(of course, nothing happened yet, i am just dreaming

He came running...I gave him the test...he looked at me all puzzled and then I told him...two lines, it means positive...he was like oh you are pregnant? I am like I guess soo?...we both smiled!!!

I was so gutted when I told my hubby as we had been trying for 2 months and the day we had our 1st ever big fight was the day I found out.
I of course was so excited and rang him at work to see if he would go to lunch with me so I could tell him. Well it turned into a I don't have time what do you want type thing. In the end I said I just found out we are having a baby. He then decided to be nice and come to lunch. On the way to meet him I got a text that said "I am going to be a daddy". Made me feel a bit better.
If I had my time over though I would be like you xanthesmum and want to do something special. Maybe you could find one of those "I love my daddy" shirts or bibs and give it to him as a gift over dinner?.

with my first i tested the day i was due, hubby told me to wait a few days and had gone off to work... i couldnt help myself, tested and then rang him at work and told him we were having a baby! i felt so bad, cause he was over the moon and we were keeping it to ourself!
with my second, it wasnt an expected pregnancy... i was a few weeks late, but had been really sick with the flu, and the previous month had been late too, so thought nothing of it. then one night hubby was having a bath and i thought i'd test, just to rule it out..... and i made hubby look at it, he was the one that told me it was positive! i was soooooooooo shocked and scared!
this time around i had already tested a few times and had come back negative, so one morning a few days after AF was due, and again while hubby was at work i thought i'd just check one more time as i was sooooooo sure i was preg, and it came back positive! once again i called him at work to tell him!!!! man i am mean! i wish i had of done something more special though. just COULDNT help myself.

I wasn't too sure that I was pregnant when I first did my pregnancy test because it was a little faint and I said to my husband that I might be pregnant. He got really excited and I said to him that I would get it confirmed by going to the doctor the next day. My husband didn't come to the doctor with me but came to pick me up afterwards and when I jumped in the car I said to him "your going to be a dad"! He had a big smile on his face and has been pretty happy about it since.

I thought I had diabetes, so I went to the DR, and found out that, no, not diabeties, but a baby. I had a bleed that day which I though was AF, so untill i could get my blood tested again on the monday, I didn't know if we still had baby or not. SO, (getting to my point) how I told DH was this. He guessed. He came home from work at lunchtime to find me in bed crying (so much to take in, especially since we were still in the discussion stage..) and he just said "you're pregnant, aren't you?", which made me cry more and harder!

I did the test before we went to work in the morning, it was early like 6am and we only leave at about 8 - anyway i got up to do it and came back to bed and sat there waiting to see, the line came up very faint and i showed him and he said looks like a line to me - but i was like "no i dont think it is, it's too faint" anyway we just both sat there in stunned silence, and he said well it looks like you are, and i said i will check with the doctor first, anyway went to the doc and they said it is positive, and i called him and he said oh thats cool but sounded pretty unfussed - i was very unfussed too - we were almost surreally calm, i dont think either of us coould actually comprehend it - it definately took a while for us to absorb! We only really clicked that it was real at about 12 weeks, and now we are getting really excited...

I caved and did the test 1 day past my due date for AF...got a funny crooked second line and ran in and showed hubby. We both stared at it and just kept saying "we might be pregnant". We refused to get excited or truely believe it!
I ran out and bought another test at work and did it in the loo and rang him to say it was a strong positive so we got a little excited.
It wasn't until our doctor confirmed it that we really got excited about it...I think because we had been trying for ages and due to go for our first fertility appointment the next month we couldn't believe we'd done it on our own!

With Kiya I found out at home, rung her bio father (he was in Auckland, I was in Picton) and said "Happy Birthday! Now sit down..."
With Josiah, Nat was waiting for me every time I came out of the bathroom to know if I was pregnant or not! As it took two weeks before we got a positive, and I tested several times, he was getting impatient!
This time, I'd done a couple of tests that were negative, and we weren't planning to TTC yet, so we weren't stressing... when I tested (as I hadn't had a period for 6 weeks) and finally got a positive, I went to Nat's work, and told the office I needed to see him... went along to his classroom (when I knew he had a non-contact period) and showed him the positive result!

First time round I did a test really early and it was a very very faint line, went back to bed and showed hubby but we didnt want to get excited till doctor confirmed it so went that afternoon, they did a test and it took forever to come up positive then sat there stunned (but happy) hubby rung while I was sitting waiting to see the doctor after doing the test and we were still both a bit stunned and just kept saying wow thats so cool. he surprised me and came home from work early and we went to tell my mum and dad. Second time he was playing cricket and I went running onto the field to tell him, that one was a bit of a shock for both of us. This one I had done a test a few days earlier that was neg so we didnt think I was and when it came back positive I couldnt wait to tell him so phoned him at work.

In late November I noticed one morning that I had really sore boobs, but thought I had slept on them funny. The next day I had the same thing so bought a pregnancy test and mentioned it to hubby who said not to bother cause it was too soon (we had been trying less than a month). I left it for the night and when hubby went to work the next morning (at his usual 5:30am), I decided to do the test anyway and it showed a definite positive. Of course I thought I did the test wrong so booked into the doctor for that afternoon and he confirmed it was positive.
I can't get hold of hubby at work so had to wait until he got home and finished telling me about his day before I pointed to my belly and told him there was a baby in there hehe Of course he was "the man" for getting me knocked up so quickly!

I hadn't got a period for a while and thought I'd better test - did so and it was positive...waited til Hubby came home from work and said.."umm, I'm pretty sure I'm pregnant" and he said "damn...how did that happen?"
With Taine I hadn't had a period from the last baby so put things off. tested and was positive and told hubby. He said, well lets go to the doctor and work out what we wanna do (as in we were living in another country and daycare was expensive - deciding whther to return home or not) and doctor said i was four months!!!
I want a planned baby!!!

Wow, Liz - four months!!! Well, for me, I tested as soon as I could on one of those "now test 3 days earlier" tests - it was our first month off the pill - and it was negative. My period didn't arrive, so a day after it was due I tested again, and got the faintest ever positive, which I showed hubby at 6am, and we tried not to get excited as we thought a faint positive mightn't really mean a baby. So the next day I tested at the Pregnancy Centre - very faint positive (they suggested I go back for another test 3 days later), and after a less faint one a couple of days later at home, we finally believed it was true, ran over to tell our friends, and off I went to the GP the next day.
I've heard of people telling their hubby's in much grander ways than my morning-haired "look at this stick" moment, but I don't think I could find out and make it to the GP without telling him in-between!

WELL. We were passively trying, as in just not 'being careful', as we'd always been under the impression it could be difficult with my suspected endo. I'd only just started using OPK's, and was still frustrated as my cycle was completely out of whack from having been on Depo before.
Anyway, it was a Friday afternoon after work, and we'd decided to splurge a little on junk food at the supermarket, as well as get some beer for the weekend. Just as we'd finished our shopping, we wound up walking through the medicines aisle and I briefly thought... "nahhh... would just be a waste of money to buy another one of those !!" But since my period was well past due, grabbed one for the hell of it, STILL not expecting anything of it as my period had skipped a month before.
So, I should have known Irony was about to pay us a visit (having bought a dozen Stella Artois), but got hubby to crack me a beer and then trotted off to the toilet to take the test.
I believe the first words out of my mouth were "HOLY CRAP !!" Which of course was enough to make hubby come running without further ado and open the bathroom door to ask "What !?!?!!" LOL And so I showed him the test, which I still have the pleasure of being able to show you ladies:
We were pretty shell shocked for a while, but then reality settled in after a few days and we were pretty chuffed !! The hardest people to tell were at work, mind you, it was just my boss in particular that was a b*tch - thankfully she has since left and my new boss is wonderful about it.
It took us a LOT longer to get around to telling our parents, but I eventually came up with these:
Aaaaaaanyway, sorry about the ramble ! LOL
OH ! Wait, before I forget (baby brain, yeesh), we went for our first scan just a few days later and I was at approx. 6 weeks 5 days.

I planned to buy a nice card, and wrap up a little baby outfit with the pregnancy test and write on the card "congratulations daddy!". But when it actually happened, I tested at a friends place (she was giving me a hard time about it and I had a sneaky feeling I was preg), and rang him at home and woke him up to tell him I'm pregnant. He was like "that's nice dear", but the next day he was all keen, reading the instructions on the HPT box to see if I had gotten it right LMAO!
With Maya I tested at the local midwife's clinic as they did free testing, and I wasn't expecting to get a positive (very unplanned!). So I pretty much went home and just blurted it out. Not too tactful me.

Nathaniel wants to be a pastor one day, and I keep threatening to be up the front of the church introducing him as the speaker, and say "Oh, and by the way everyone, please excuse my husband if he's a bit distracted. Honey, I'm pregnant." and sit down!
