Topic: A hard time of year Posted: 06 January 2009 at 3:12pm |
Its sad when tragedies happen at any time of the year, but there is just something so heartbreaking when you hear people have died around this season .
My friends ex, his mum, sister (who was 7months preg) his BIL and his 5 year old neice were killed in a car accident driven by his other sister (the only survivor ) on christmas eve 2000,tragic horrible thing anyway , but even more so it seemed , the fact it happened christmas eve .
I remember reading about the girl who got hit by a car or bike or something on the beach on newyears day last year , and i was so sad to think her parents start to the year was their daughter dying
and of course Sonny Vai, at the start of a promising new rugby league year, and I just read about a girl killed by a jetski in lake Taupo today .
Such a special season , but such a hard hard season for so many

I agree. And it must be hard for those who lose a loved one during the year and then spend christmas without them I still feel sad at christmas when I see my nana without her husband.

yeah , it would be, my friend's mum said she didnt feel like celebrating christmas this year, the second without their daughter, but felt like everyone expected her too, that would be sad , must be bittersweet for family , the constant reminders that life goes on ,with or without the ones they love

i knew that girl her brother was in my class when i was at primary and she was a lovley girl from a lovely family. it was sad to think that it had been a year since it happened. and new year is ment to be about new beginnings but for them it will always be a reminder of her death
my thoughts were with them on new years day

I was actually wondering if I had that right , if it was a year, I remember reading about it , such an awful thing to happen , and on the first day of the year...her friend was hurt badly too, wasnt she ?

We found this year tough; my grandad died unexpectedly on the 7th December and the last thing any of us felt like doing was celebrating Christmas, but we did because the kids needed us too.
Craigs work friend lost his aunty (she was killed when the trailer hit her car and she had her son in the front in his carseat and he was badly injured by the airbags). They were spending Christmas day at Starship as he was due to have another operation on his brain....
Just not fair.....

Yep, this Christmas was a bit of a rip off - my dad passed away on the 10th and it still stings to think about it too much. I flew over there to be with family and it was all just so surreal... But strangely enough I feel most sad about my little girl never getting to see her Papere (her name for him, french thing) again... he was only 61! Mind you it is all the worse for my stepmum, they had been together for 16 years.
Anyway... it was just such a relief to get back to my own little family here and back to routine.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Its all so sad, and when it happens this time of year , at a time we associate with bbqs, and friends, and family times etc, it just seems even more unfair than it already is .
Ive had 6 friends die over the years, none at christmas time tho (BF's ex's family is the only one I know of ) so im lucky , I can still associate this time with all the things about christmas season that I love (apart from my friends not being there to see it )
I feel so bad for people who are always going to have such a painful thing to remember on what should be a happy time of year .
And sympathies , and hugs, to all those who have lost family or close friends , especially recently .
