Hi

I'd like a little help please. My wife and I had a little 'accident' this morning and we're wondering what the chances are of conceiving from this (she's a regular here, but a bit shy about mentioning it).

She's on day 12, but is still breastfeeding, so her cycles aren't too regular (30-35ish days), last month was a 30 day cycle. Not sure if she's ovulating or not.

Can we relax or is there a chance? We weren't thinking of trying for baby#2 for another year, but will be happy enough either way.

Thanks for you help.

I think there is always a chance some people get preg using birth control and docs dont guarantee that breast-feeding stops you getting preg i think there are a few on here who got preg while breastfeeding. Anythings possible.

Good luck with what ever result you want

Anything can happen but my experience is that it's pretty hard to conceive while bf in the first 6-8mos of baby's life. After that the bf occurs less frequently and the hormones seem to start changing. That's my experience as one who doesn't get much of an AF break after babies!

I wouldn't worry about it. Chances are slim IMO unless your baby is over 8mos old, and then you probably have the usual 20-30% chance (? don't quote me on exact stats). If you do end up having a little surprise however, I'm sure you'll find it within each of you to work through it

If her cycle is 30-days plus, then the chances of ovulation on d12 are pretty low. So I'd say unlikely. But always possible

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I should have said that my wife has had her periods back for just over a year now - baby is most definitely older than 8 months!

We don't think she'd ovulate that early, but weren't sure how long the sperm would survive if she were to ov in the next few days. I'm guessing the chances of conceiving are still pretty slim?

Im not too sure how how it all works when breastfeeding but the little swimmers can last up to 72 hours in fertile cervical mucous environments.

I guess its always possible. Good luck with whatever outcome you want

I'd say possible - even if her cycles are a bit longer than 'usual' some women still ovulate around day 13/14... and as rianna08 mentioned sperm can last up to 72hrs (depending on motility etc). That's not a guarantee that it will happen of course, best of luck to you both for whatever the outcome is.
