Topic: Single mum with 14 children Posted: 08 February 2009 at 6:33am |
Good Morning
Did anyone see the interview last night on the news with that lady that had the octuplets?
Media claims she already has 6 children all under the age of 7yrs and she's currently living with her parents receiveing a disability allowance fromt he state as she's been deemed unfit for work but fit to have AI and end up with 8 innoccent little bubbas....
I dont know what other people think about her situation & Im not usually one to judge but this is over the top stupidity on this womans behalf & Im not at all saying she should have terminated any of her babies but she should not have been allowed the Artificial Insemination in the 1st place....What kind of a dodgy clinic accepts a solo mother on a disability with 6 children to go ahead with the procedure to have more children, It's just crazyness....
This story angers me & saddens me so much....

I totally agree with you!
I saw them saying in another doco that for each baby in NICU in the states it costs approx a million dollars, so thats 8 million!
I think its so wrong on the clinics part to have gone ahead with the implantation when they knew she was a single mum with 6 children already.
I hear she wants some ridiculous amount of money to appear on Oprah.

It's sad what publicity and money can do to some people...This woman has to realise that the novelty of having 8 babies is going to wear off eventually so the cash flow will dwindle out. I just hope she makes wise choices over the next few months in regards to charging for interviews and stuff & uses the money properly to take care of her children....

She was talking last night about how she is there for her children and can give them love and attention. And apparently she's planning on going back to school to do her masters degree - how much time can you have for each of your 14 children at the same time as doing a masters (and who's paying for it?!?! and for them to live?!)

Agree with you all but missed the interview - how did she afford the AI treatment?

I got really annoyed when she was saying, Im there for my kids and blah blah blah, I find it hard to spread my time between my 8wk old, 20mth old & 30mth old.....Is she gonna be there for them when 5 out the 8 are crying for feeds & or changes & her 2 year old falls and hurts him/herself and wants a cuddle????? Um no, it's gonna be physically impossible....
I was wondering how she paid for the treatment also.... That clinic needs to be shut down and that DR's licence needs to be taken away, what is he/or she thinking....child services need to be involved with this case....

I saw somewhere that is was only 6 that were put back and 2 split to make 8 babies.
I have no idea how she thinks she is going to go back to school later this year, I found it hard sometimes with just 2 children and fulltime study.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

The clinic who put the eggs in will have alot to answer for! SO irresponsible of them! American tax payers will be paying for those babies for years and years......... its so ridiculous!
She looked like a tiny woman too!! Where were those 8 babies hidden!!

I heard they are investigating her doctors - even if it was 6 embryos that spilt, the US guideline is a maximum of 2 embryos at a time. Appalling that they put that many in.

Was she single when she approached the clinic? Who did she get the AI from then?

It is very crazy, I am also angry that she is on a benefit unable to work yet she can carry 8 babies.
She is just in it for money, crazy that you need to have 14 kids in order to get more money.
There will be no way she can show all her kids attention, some of those poor kids are going to be neglicted.

I'm also very angry! IVF gets a bum rep from loads of people saying that it messes with the natural order of things (Absolute rot if you ask me!).
A lady having 14 children through IVF with minimal money presumably makes a mockery of whats to me the most incredible scientific and medical intervention for those women who are struggling with cooncieving!
Situations like a single mum on an invalids benefit who can carry 8 babies at once doesn't sound like she's too sick or debilitated to me!
I'm struggling to have one little baby who I would love and cherish and make the centre of my whole world!
sorry for rant but the more I hear about this the angrier I get! Those poor little babies..

She is a complete nutter!!!
Single mother living with her bankrupt parents, 6 children and decides to have further IVF treatment to have more?!?
She said that she paid for the treatments with a disability cheque she received from being injured when she was working in a psychiatric hospital, (are we sure she wasn't a patient there instead?).
Is it just me or does it look like she has had some "work" done to her face to look like Angelina Jolie. Hmm, someone wanting to look like a famous person that has lots of children, for some reason I don't think she is going to find her Brad Pitt. LOL

I agree with you all. My first thoughts when i heard about this were that it had to be via IVF and why on earth did they put that many embryos in. It really angers me i feel for those children what sort of life are they going to lead. I hear that her aim is to get 2 million dollars for an interview with oprah and thats how she plans on paying for the kids. well i doubt that oprah will be interviewing her and that amount won't go far its only $250,00 per child

I think it sucks and is reprehensible. The horrid thing is that people do view large multiples as money spinners as so often in the past companies have donated money and goods (and housing renovations) to them so that when the media inevitably comes calling they will get their own product placement. Anyone remember the
Dilleys?
The horrible thing is that in this case I think it's going to backfire. The angle the media has taken is one of greed and so it's unlikely that she will get her expected 2 mill interview or much of anything else. If she's lucky she may get something with news of the world or some such mag. She's going to end up with 14 children all struggling.
And to address the big ol' elephant in the corner - one has to wonder if it may have turned out differently if she was married and white. The American media do play favourites.

i read in the paper that the donar was a friend of hers .
I think it's shocking what the clinic has done, she spends so she says 45 mins quality time with each baby in neo nates, was about he other children she has at home!
