We have tried numerous times to teach Jack to self settle with no real success. We have tried music, books, bath before bed, drink of milk, a couple different teddies/toys (which I had up my nightie a few nights each so they smelt like me ), a dummy which he only chews (although I didn't push it too hard).

I am feeling quite lost as to where we go from here. He just seems to fight sleep as much as he can. You can see his eyelids start to droop and then he will do something to keep himself awake i.e. stand up, stick legs through bars of the cot etc

I am going to get the No Cry Sleep Solution from the library when it becomes available but I wondered if anyone else has had this problem of their child fighting sleep. CC or CIO are not an option for us as I personally don't like them. My only other thought is to just leave him to muck around until he finally decided to go to sleep (with us still in the room otherwise all hell will break loose) but I am worried about how long that will take.

Any ideas?
Lindsey

Yeah that will take a long time but most of the no cry solutions do. For us the most important thing was to put in a bed and nap time routine, we would leave the room once he was settled but if he lost the plot then we would go back in and resettle him. We did this for as long as it took for him to go to sleep. CC wasn't an option of us either, it just didn't work Dominic would literally cry all night.

YIp We have a routine then if he doesn't settle we just keep going into his room settling him and staying with him to he's good, calm and dozy then off we go. When we first started it took a lot but now we only have to go back in sometimes and then only for a short time.
Good luck with whatever you chose because I see you have another on the way so it'd be super helpful to get some relaxing evening in there for you.

We do have a good routine that we stick to and have even tried bring bedtime earlier incase he was overtired but he still seems to fight it.

At this stage we can't leave the room until he is asleep as he will cry as soon as we stand up to leave. Although he is worse at the moment due to being sick, cutting a back molar and I do wonder whether he has had a bit of separation anxiety again. Oh add to that the fact that we are moving in a few weeks and he must know that something is happening

Oh well, will wait to get the No Cry Sleep Solution from the library and see how we go
