Topic: Movies with DH Posted: 03 March 2009 at 4:34pm |
My DH and I like different types of movies, every now and then we see one that we both like the sound of, like recently we saw Slumdog Millionaire together - what I think are "unisex" films.
If I want to see a chick flick I will go with a friend or my mum. However occasionally my DH wants to see a movie that I don't want to see (an example at the moment is Gran Torino) and he reckons it is unfair that I don't want to go with him because that means he doesn't get to go. It's not that he doesnt have friends to go with but he thinks it is weird if two guys go to the movies together And he doesn't want to go by himself.
I don't want to go to a movie that I'm not keen on because I will be bored out of my brain and will fall asleep (I know this from experience!) and I think it is a waste of money.
So two questions:
1. Do you go to "boys" movies with your DH that you don't want to see?
2. Do you agree that it is weird for two guys to go to the movies together?

& no I don't go to movies I dont' want to see, it's too expensive.

no way would my DH go with just one guy but maybe a group would go together if they could organise it. me and DH are generally into good boy movies, i hate chick flicks but i still go to the ones he likes if i think its gonna suck cos its still time spent together and he appreciates the effort. we might go out to tea first or something so that it doesnt completely suck if the movie is awful but normally i end up enjoying something in the movie even if im not keen

We don't go to the movies very often at all but when we do i often choose movies that i know he will like cos other wise he wont go.
I actully found Grand Torino really good. It started off really slow but got great at the end and isnt all action or anything and has a good heartfelt message. May be the preggy hormones but i even cried at the end....
I couldnt imagine DH going to the movies alone or with one other guy but if you dont want to see something maybe just wait til it comes out on DVD...?

Oh you have to watch gran torino, it's brilliant!! But me and my DP have an unspoken agreement with movies - I watch "our movie" 1st, then we watch "his" movie - and I go to sleep!

1. Yes
2. No
I have a slightly different taste in movies, I don't mind more "blokey" films in the slightest, in fact my favorite genre is war movies.
DH can occasionally be convinced to see a 'chick flick' too.

I sit through DH's movies, and though not enthusiastic to begin with I usually end up quite enjoying them
My DH doesn't really mind watching chick movies either, we used to go to the movies weekly but the cinemas began to put prices up and it got wayyy too expensive to go. Now we just get DVD's and cuddle on the couch
Also I don't think it's weird at all for 2 guys to go to the movies.
LittleSal your DH might even find there are other pairs of guys there too, and that it is quite normal for 2 guys to go together and that people won't judge

Mostly we just rent out movies, I can't be bothered with going out to the movies! But DH really loves to see a good sci-fi or action there. So he'll often go out with a bloke and I'll put my hand up for babysitting (instead of freaking out and shaking in the theatre lol)... so
1. Do you go to "boys" movies with your DH that you don't want to see?
Nope, I really can't handle the level that he can. But in saying that, I feel sorry for him watching chick flicks with me (I do like "light" action but that's a bit kiddy for him I think) so sometimes I'll go watch chick flicks at a girlfriend's house or when he's out.
2. Do you agree that it is weird for two guys to go to the movies together?
Not at all - especially if it is the bang crash boom type of movie.

We used to take turns to choose the movie, but I would never choose a chick flick because I knew DH would hate it.
So we tended to watch more "unisex" or boys films, but I didn't mind so much as I have girlfriends to go to chick flicks with.
Now its much more expensive to go, so we just go to ones we both want to see and get the rest on DVD.

Hehe, DH has gone on a few 'man dates' with his friend, they have BK or something similarly hideous first and see a terrible boy movie that I wouldn't even watch on DVD. He probably has more fun on those dates than dates with me!

I won't go to a boys movie with DH but don't mind if he gets it out on DVD. Although we have quite similar taste which is good.
Although he goes to girly movies with me, but I think deep down he likes them

I have kind of the opposite problem, I have a "man's" taste in movies and can't usually stand to watch chick flicks unless it's also hilarous (but usually I find them ho-hum and predictable)..
This means I can't really make plans with girlfriends to watch movies as we will never agree and I refuse to watch anything I know I won't like.
I think only guys think it's strange for 2 men to go to the movies together..

My DH will only go to the movies with one other guy if it is a relative, otherwise it would have to be a group of them going.
We tend to compromise on movies, meaning I compromise and see his boy flicks and every know and then I bully him into a movie I'm interested in. Not that he would admit it to anyone else but he alway ends up enjoying the movies I choose.

If we are going out to the movies, we won't bother wasting money on something we don't BOTH want to see (he wouldn't want to see a "chick" movie and I wouldn't want to see a horror, for example) so we tend to just see the ones that we agree on. (Luckily we both like most cartoons and action type movies, it's really only the sappy romantic comedies and horrors or hard-out action movies that we don't agree on).
But if we are hiring out movies from a DVD store, we just get what we want to see, and watch them together (or not). DH just doesn't want to waste money at the movies if he isn't going to enjoy it, fair enough.
DH doesn't have any probs going to see his horror/action movies with another guy/guys though. It's not like they hold hands and share a drink or anything
