How early can you start adding spices and herbs to baby's food?
I know sugar and salt are not recommended, but I would like babygoat to be exposed to other different flavours from a young age. When I'm cooking for my husband and I, I use stuff like cinnamon, cumin, coriander, ginger, garlic, basil, oregano, turmeric, paprika, caraway seeds etc. quite often.

 Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Henry pretty much eats what we eat although we don't use a lot of spices because my stomach can't handle them. He eats the same meals as us mostly. When did you start him on solids? I would wait until hes been on them a few months before doing anything with heaps of flavour. He will get used to it pretty quick. But id be worried about upsetting their lil tummies.

I'm starting to do it now cos I want him exposed to a range of flavours at an early age.

Joels had curry powder and garlic in his food so far...in saying that though he eats anything so didn't think we would have an issue. If I had more imagination I would put other things in but I never think of them. |

Thanks for the feedback. She has been on and off solids since 4 1/2 months but only once a day and we have been gradually increasing the amount. She's certainly had a good variety of first foods.
I got a baby and toddler cookbook from the library to get inspired, and there was one suggestion of potato, pea and mint puree ... it used fresh mint and I have tried that with her and she really likes it. So maybe I will get her onto the garlic and spices once she starts eating meat (we plan to do that from 7 months).

 Thanks again.

We used spices from about 7-8mth with Dom but we were just careful not to use too much, after all babies have a lot more taste buds than we do! I used garlic and herbs before I used the more earthy spices like cumin and corriander.
