Topic: Breast Pumps - Manual or Electric?Posted: 12 April 2009 at 6:50pm |

Hey guys, I am needing some advice on Breast Pumps...I was thinking of purchasing an electric pump as they seem to have worked the best with my two other Pregnancies, but what do you lovely ladies think?
What is your preference? Manual or Electric.....???? also, any particular brand? I have seen a couple of Nuk Electric ones on Trade Me (new) or should I stick with Avent?? Rach

I have a medela electric breast pump (the mini one) would have like the swing but was a bit expensive. I was using a manual but i found it very hard work and i couldnt seem to relax while using it which meant my letdown didnt happen very easily. I went with medela because that was the brand i used in hospital so felt familiar with them. The mini is a bit loud according to some people - but i dont find it too bad. Hope that helps.

I love my Avent Isis manual, it cost me $90 when Maya was a baby and has seen me thru 4 babies, including full time expressing for the twins.
I hired a Medela Symphony double electric when the gremlins were tiny but ended up going back to the Isis coz it seemed to be more effective and took the same length of time even tho I had to do each side separately. |

I had an avent manual pump and that was great but then last time around I ended up expressing full time so bought a medela mini double electric and that was great also and was quicker as I could pump both sides at once. I use that one now as I sold the manual one but I wish I still had it as I only pump now and then and setting up the electric one is a pain in the butt (not that there's much too it just it would be easier to have a manual one).
