Topic: our new puppy Posted: 30 April 2009 at 10:05pm |
so it looks like we are getting a wee girl puppy in two weeks! She's an 8week old golden lab and so cute (you KNOW there will be pics). anyway, initially she was going to be "clifford" but jake has changed his mind, because she's a girl. he wants to name her...Jake. ("it's a good name mum!")
so we are very gently suggesting that perhaps Jake the puppy may be a bit confusing, so would like to offer some alternatives....
so NAME THAT PUPPY! (sriously, we can't call it Jake!)

haha Jake sounds like my DH who is adamant that our next born should be named after him if it's a boy.
I suck at naming animals but she sounds super cute and I can't wait for pics.

Honey is a cute name for a golden lab girl but quite common. We have a black lab and he is called Diesel.
They are the cutest dogs and just the best for around kids. Hope you find a name that suits her and ENJOY!

Oh I'm jealous, we had a golden lab when I was really little and I loved him! His name was Sam... Actually sorry to thread jack but I have to tell this story now...
So I was about four and by this point Sam was quite old with arthritis etc so Mum had him put down My Mum's was a primary school teacher then and after seeing Sam off on her lunch break she went back to her afternoon shared reading with her kids.. Well poor Mum, the book that she had scheduled to read her kids that day was called ''My Dog Sam'' with a big picture (of you guessed it) a golden lab! Needless to say Mum was a bit upset!
Soooo, I have to vote for the name Sam - our Sam was the best dog ever

DH wants to name our (theoretical) dog Samantha, Sam for short. He loves the name after watching I am Legend and has already prewarned our niece (also called Samantha).
My vote would go towards a name with meaning. Since she's a golden retriever why not name her Liza after the sun god.

There are lots of great names, just don't pick Bella. We have a two year old golden lab named Bella and every second dog in the dog park has the same name. We thought it was a cool unique name when we came up with it! Bella gets pretty confused when all of these strangers are calling her. Even our new next door neighbours have a dog named Bella
Labs are great dogs and fantastic with kids. Have fun

Also, I vote for not giving it a "human" name.
We have a Phoebe (a Dalmatian) and if we're at the park and calling her, all the little Phoebe's at the park think we're yelling at them

Id recommend when choosing a name think about how its going to sound when you are yelling across a park too, i have heard of too many people calling their animals names and then when they goto yell them realising just how stupid they are going to sound.

Kayla, Sam, Goldie, Gucci, Sally,
Naming dogs is also a good way of using the fanciful names from movies etc that you like but would never give your kids.
Our pets have mostly had human names, does make for some interesting conversation when you someone with the same name.
