Topic: KIwi bank Debit Card Posted: 20 May 2009 at 2:51pm |
Does anyone have one of these? I do. because I wanted to by stuff online and not have a credit card or have to do all that bank deposit stuff.
So anyway. I went to use it online and it declined. There's money in the account. I've acctivated it at a atm. But it won't work.
I'm just seeing if I'm doing something wrong before I go ringing the back like the idiot i am cause I can't work ou this new Technlogy.

I have one too but haven't had any trouble using it online. I activated mine at a branch but that shouldn't make a difference.

It might be the site you are trying to use. I have found with mine that there are a few places that won't accept it. Stupid sites!!!!

I've got a Westpac one and I've only ever had a problem with it once, that was with My Blanket, for some reason even tho I had the bank screen open and could see the balance and that there was plenty of funds there it wouldn't go thru. I ended up giving the guy a credit card # and it was fine.

I was warned by the staff on the kiwibank phoneline not to put my debit card into a prepay feul pump as they can take up to $150 from your account as "insurance" against feul theft.

Wow, I'll bear that in mind! I usually use my eftpos card for that sort of thing anyway.

It doesn't actually take the money, it just pre authorises it for a certain amount to make sure you'll be able to pay, it then only takes the amount that you've filled your car up with.
Hotels will often do the same, they pre-authorise your card when you check in with the amount that it will cost for your stay but the actual transaction doesn't take place until you pay when you leave (or you do a runner and don't pay and they can still take the money).

The fuel thing is changing though, I read somewhere that Kiwibank where sorting it so in the future it was treated like a eftpos transaction.
sarahbetha - I read just before that Kiwi Bank are having problems with their online banking and their debit plus cards so maybe thats the problem.
They are great things though - I LOVE mine
