Just wondering if any of you mother who are 2nd/3rd etc... times mother did an antinatal class?
My thought is this is my husbands first baby (we have two other older kids) and so he hasn't a clue what to expect and I rather not be explaining things to him whilst in labour so wondering if anyone else has done a course 'just for the husbands' sake rather than their own. I also feel it will be good for him to meet other fathers (first time) and me mothers as my youngest is 8 years old so nice to get to know someone with a baby similar age (although this isn't as important as I have a few friends who have just had babies I just started early.)

Well it could be a refresher course for ya!!
I dont see why not... if it was me i'd rather go to ante natal classes twice and have my partner in control and a grasp on things instead of saying "I've done it before, you don't need to go"

Uh oh ! I'm going to apologise in advance, and ask you NOT to take me *too* seriously on this one but my English Geek side is squirming around and bugging out... reason being is that *ahem* it's 'ante' rather than 'anti'. As suffixes, they have two different meanings - 'Anti' = against / opposed to / opposite of, and 'Ante' = ahead of / what comes before / in advance. They are called 'antenatal' classes as they are in preparation for / in advance of the event of childbirth.

ahhhh Jax - it's now so tempting to mispell every second word in this post, however...
Yes, I went to antenatal classes for the second time with Andrew as he was my hubby's (note the correct possessive grammar Jax) first baby. It's only six extra evenings of your life, and it is good to meet other people having babies at the same time as you. It's also good to be the class know-it-all.

We didnt go with the second one although i did try to get into a refresher one but their wernt enough people wanting to do it in my area at the time. Parents centre run the refrsher ones so maybe you could contact them in your area. The good thing about them is they also have alot of info about feelings that your first child/ren are going through and how to deal with things. Also great way to meet coffee group buddies. lol

I haven't been to antenatal classes yet... Josiah was my husband's first child, and we intended to go to antenatal classes for Nat to get an idea of what to expect, but it just didn't happen for a number of reasons.
Nat and I did sit down with a couple of baby books and I talked about what happened when I gave birth to Kiya, and what he should expect to be similar.

I think if I had another child I'd do it for hubby. I know with my boyfriend (though we aren't in quite the same position yet) feels a bit inadequate when it comes to parenting. If I ever have a child to him I know I am going to have to be VERY conscious of not taking over completely!!
Anyway, might be good for the changes that have happened in the last 8 years and to get to know the hospital you will be having the babe at. (If that is what the classes get into anyway)

Firstly to Jax - I am the first one to put my hand up and say - I cheated at spelling at school so completely useless at it (no offence taken as one of my friends is very good at spelling and is always pointing things out to me.)
I do think it will be a good idea for hubby to go to one of these - I am not one who explains things and would rather get on with it rather than say whats wrong so think it will give him a better insight, not just the birth but breast feeding etc....

I really do try my best not to harp on at people about it, but sometimes it's just too hard to resist, and I *do* try to do it as lightheartedly as possible  But who can blame me with an English teacher mum (who has an MA in Linguistics!)

Ann, whether you do go to classes or not, the one thing you should make sure he understands is that YOU WILL BE IN PAIN AT SOME POINT AND HE CAN'T FIX IT!!!
That was the one thing my hubby found the hardest (natural water birth), knowing it hurt me and he couldn't help. He said afterwards he felt really useless because he couldn't stop the pain, but for me, just knowing he was there holding my hand and encouraging me was a tremendous help.

Yes I have stressed and stressed its gonna hurt. I think I will book into a class, was talking to SIL whos due with her first beginning july and said her partner found it very good and now he can understand a lot more of whats happening.
