    Posted: 25 May 2009 at 9:30pm

Thought I might start a general thread for everyone out there currently riding the infertility rollercoaster, no matter how far along it you are . Reason being that I lurk around here quite a lot but I'm not sure what is causing our secondary infertility or how to treat it, so I don't really know where I 'fit' IYGWIM?  And everyone seems so lovely, but all the threads in this area are split up into little groups of people, so I thought it might be quite fun to get everyone together as well?  And lure some other lurkers out too?   I'm definitely not trying to do away with the existing threads or anything like that at all BTW - this is simply meant to be an extra place for people to chat, hopefully on a regular basis?

Apologies for the uninspired thread name .

Introductions first aye? Guess I'd better start....

DH (37) and I (31) have a wee boy Jimmy who is almost 18 months old. It took us one year from my last Depo injection to conceive him, and we've been trying for number 2 for the past 16 months with no luck. Think I was in denial about our infertility for most of that time. I've been taking Vitex and a herbal mix from a naturopath for the past two months, and had my first day 2 blood test at the doctors last week (still waiting to hear results). I can have scans at the local hospital, but will need to travel to Chch - a 3 hour drive - for any testing DH may require or any specialist appointments needed. Trying my best to stay positive, but have had to let go of the dream of having a small age gap between kids. It scares me that this gap is only going to continue to increase and, despite the endless drag of the 2 week wait, the months keep slipping by at an ever increasing rate...

opps, sorry, didn't mean to end on a depressing note  Anways, I'm looking forward to *meeting* you all and hearing your stories. Rant, rave and yarn away!

Hi Kakapo and emmag great idea for a thread

I will come back tomorrow and tell you my story in more depth, but basically I have recurrent miscarriages, three in the last ten months, so frustrating and disappointing and I am hoping that Fertility Associates in Hamilton will be able to help me sort out what is wrong.

Hey, neat idea.

DH (28) and I (25) been trying for just under a year. The Dr is pretty sure that although my body goes through all the right motions, I'm not ovulating. We're waiting for an appointment with FA Hamitlon (same as Appy) to work out why - we're booked in for 24 June. My GP, when I went to see her, reckoned that we were going to have to go down the IVF route. I'm hoping she's wrong (surely I could try Clomid first??) but she's a good Dr, and has been spot on when diagnosing some medical probs I've had in the past. I've got a history of problems with with my endocrine and autoimmune systems, which are unfortunately probably playing a role in the problem (bleh).

Hiya,

I'm a terrible serial lurker too, not sure exactly where to fit in, so this thread is great idea!

DP 38, me 35, unexplained infertility, ttc # 1 for almost five years!!! Crikey where did that time go.

First round of IVF Dec 08 through FA Hamilton, ended in early miscarriage Feb 09, have just started again with frozen embie, due for transfer in a week or so, so fingers crossed for a sticky one this time round!!

Wishing you all the best of luck in your ttc journeys!

Hi Hopes and Scaredycat. I have the problem of not knowing where I fit in as well, I don't wanna spend all my time in the miscarriage section as I would find that too depressing so seeing as I am under a specialist at FA in Ham here seems a good place for me to hang out if you ladies don't mind.

Scaredycat I will have everything crossed that your embie transfer next week has a positive outcome.

I am just waiting this arvo for a call back from the nurse at FA to see what my specialist reccommends for us to do next, lol, I hate waiting!

Hi guys, My Dh (29) and myself (28) have been trying to conceive #1 for 20 months. Got stuffed around by my crap GP before I had to assert myself and get seen by a FA specialist. Once there I was diagnosed with PCOS and found to not be ovulating. I was started on 2 cycles of 50mg and no Ov, then 2 cycles of 100mgs and I OV!! YAY However still no BFP, I am now on my 5 th cycle of clomid, taking 100mgs again since it worked last 2 times and am awaiting my day 21 blood test.

I hang out mainly in the clomid pill poppers thread but would love to hang out here too if thats ok Hopes, i think clomid may work for you but its just your othre mentioned probs that may put a spanner inthe works, my G.P (not the crap one, but the one I changed to that actually listened to me) said that while they are educated in clomid, specialists are the experts in that area. Fx that your Dr at FA prescribes clomid. I dont get too many side effects on them at all...

Can anyone let me know what to expect?

Been TTC for 15months no +ve PG test. Opk's show I ovulate and so do temps.

Thanks appy2, I'm sorry to see your three angel signs, that is so sad, I hope the specialists can sort something out for you soon.

I read that you see a specialist in FA Hamilton, does that mean you have done IVF too? Or do they offer other services aswell?

I wanna hang out too! It took us 5 years to conceive out little man (the month before we were to start ivf) as I have a few issues re my tubes and so we only have a 1 in 3 chance of going it alone. We ditched the condoms last month and so are just seeing where it goes as I think we are both a little scared things won't happen again for us. Not such a big thing I know as we already have Alex but it is if you get what I mean. There are a few of us in Hamilton aren't there? FA here were great for us! We ended up having to go privately through VP Singh from there to have an op done on me as we were taken off the list thanks to our stupid health system.

Yep, there is heaps of us from Hamilton. Cool Unless it's something in the water... in which case I'm moving

I think FA do a range of fertilty stuff, ScaredyCat. At least my Dr referred us there, and that's just to check out what's wrong.

Our first appointment is private - mostly just to speed the process along. We couldn't afford IVF - we'll have to wait on the public list for that if we need it, but if something a bit cheaper is an option, we would probably consider paying for it ourselves, to avoid the wait. Anyone have any idea how much clomid costs?

Sorry Ellecheza, I don't really know what to expect either. I haven't even had day 2 bloods done yet, since AF is MIA (day 68 - longest cycle yet!)

Oooo yay, hi everyone

Of course you're all welcome to join in - no need to ask. The more the merrier I reckon !

Reading your stories makes me realise what an impatient person I am, some of you have been waiting so long now or did wait for ages before having your first baby - respect . Looking forward to learning lots from you guys.

Have definitely been in denial about my infertility until recently ... now I want to know what steps I can take to do something (anything!) about it.  Is anyone else trying to lose weight?

ETA - hehehe Hopes, just read your post now. Pretty sure our West Coast rainwater is OK, but I am starting to wonder whether living right next to the high voltage transmission lines is having a negative effect lol. The only other couple that I know of with fertility issues around here lives just down the road...

Great idea kakapo.

I'm 36, almost 37 (gulp) and DH has just turned 32. We have been trying for number 1 for almost 2 years, and have just finished 3 rounds of clomid with no BFP.
We have borderline issues with DH's swimmers and I am having a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and a hysterosalpingogram(HSG or dye) on the 12th of june to see if I've got endo or any issues.   Our specialist has said that our next treatment will be IVF. I was totally freaked out last week when she told this but am getting used to the idea. I was sure she was going to suggest IUI or something else. I would love to be one of those women who gets pregnant just before we are supposed to start IVF but because I think that I am sure I have jinxed myself.

Scaredycat - I'm sending you huge sticky vibes for your transfer.

Hopes, with FA in Auckland a monitored clomid cycle is $220 per cycle, which includes scans and blood test etc.

How are you going appy? Hope you are doing OK .

$220 sounds affordable... not that I'd like to pay that too many times, but it's not like the thousands IVF would cost. We've just (yay!) gone up to two incomes, and so we're squirrelling away everything DH earns just in case it's needed for baby-making or baby-related things.

lol about the power lines Kakapo.

On the weight loss - I went and checked out my BMI when I learnt we were having problems... it was within the normal range, but I could drop a few kilos and get it dead in the middle of the normal range (which I'm doing... more to feel like I'm doing someting than anything else!) I've also been helped along by the fact I've had a nasty bug this week, and lost a couple of kilos with that

Great idea Hopes! We were so lucky and DH's parents sent us up a cheque each month that we did our Clomphene treatments.

Ok so I am starting to get a little depressed around the whole what if I can't have another one and I so need to get over it! I am so lucky to have Alex and I know that but as a few people I know are having new additions I feel all those old feelings from before Alex coming back.

hi guys
can i hang out here too? what a great idea for a thread we had one ages ago about hanging out in limbo land lol but it was great that anyone with infertility troubles could hang out and chat with what ever stage they were at, so this one is fab! :-)

anyway i'm Lana im 28 and got PCOS and my DH is 37 it took us a while and lots of drugs (that didn't make me ovulate) to get pregnant with Rory and were booked for IVF last july and decided in feb that i wasn't going to do anymore clomid and have a few months off before we started IVF.....about 3 weeks later i got pregnant
Infertility is such a long hard road and i wouldn't wish it on anybody! so i really hope you all get that much longed for BFP and sticky baby that you all deserve! :-)

I'm feeling a bit like you Henna so so greatful to have our wee man but also have that what if i cant get pregnant again or have to go through all that again to have another baby, and if it came down to not being able to concieve again i would be hugely dissapointed and upset but also super greatful that we have our fantastic wee man, but yep its always in the back of my mind.....

anyway we are currently not trying but not preventing and just putting it all in the lap of the gods lol what ever is ment to be will happen...that is of course for now lol in another couple of years if nothing has happened i'll probably be questioning those gods hahahahaha

anyway after my novel....it will be good to get to know you all and follow and support your journeys

Evening ladies, scaredycat I was referred to FA in Ham because of my age 38 at the time and we had been trying for over a year already. Then just before our first appt we got a BFP, then m/c, then a BFP straight away and then m/c again. So we decided to go and see them at FA in Feb this year to look into the recurrent miscarriage issues. Our specialist found low motility with DH's swimmers just to add to the probs, and then the specialist decided the best option was to do an IUI cycle with clomid and just before we were to start the clomid this month we got another BFP and once again m/c just last week.

I rang FA to tell them I suspected I was m/c'in again, and anyway they got back to me today (I have posted about this in the ttc'in area) and it seems I have something abnormal in the miscarriage bloods they did. They didn't say quiet what it was but VP (hehe Henna I have vp as well, he is great) has asked me to do a Lupus anticoagulant test, which I think has to do with blood clotting and this causes the miscarriages.

Lol so as you can imagine Im quiet excited cause it seems like we might have some answers at long last and now we have a review appt in Rotorua (cause it was the earliest appt we could get) on 30th June.

I will keep you all updated but im pretty excited, lol can ya tell

That's great, Appy... I really hope you get some answers (it sounds odd to say that a FA app to discuss probs is great, but I'm sure you know what I mean!)

Back to work for me today... I've been off with y vomiting bug for the last three days. I'm still super-tired, so I'm not looking forward to it much, but work's piling up, and I'm taking my little sisters to Disney on Ice tonight, so I'd feel like a fraud to go to that and not work! It will be a long day... *sigh*

Nice to see you Noodle - it's encouraging to see that the amazing success stories you hear about do actually happen sometimes. I hope Bubs #2 do9esn't cause half as much trouble to concieve.
