Hope someone out there can offer me some suggestions!
DS is 3 and a half months, and has always been a really good sleeper. He used to love going to bed, and was all smiles when I put him down, and would just go straight to sleep. Different now though!
Two weeks ago he moved form his bassinet in our room to a cot in his own room. It was a gradual shift - day sleeps in cot and night in bassinet, then bassinet in his room...and so on. So not a sudden change. He was okay with that, but a bit grizzly, so I spent extra time with him at bedtimes helping him to settle.
Now for the last few days he has hated the thought of going to sleep, and I have a half hour stressful battle every time. He starts to grizzle as I take him to his room, so I soothe him, but no matter what, as soon as I put him down he begins to cry, which then escalates into screaming despite anything I do. Then during the day once I finally get him to sleep (probably because he is worn out) he only sleeps for 20 minutes. However at night once he is asleep he will sleep for 6 or 7 hours, have a middle of the night feed and go straight back to sleep happily.
I have tried putting him in his cot earlier - he plays happily, and then once he gets tired begins to get upset. If I feed him (like late at night) he will practically fall asleep on me while feeding, but then wake and yell as soon as I put him down. Last night I tried putting him into the spare bed with me in his room - no go. We have the same routine we have always had, but now instead of getting him ready for bed it seems to be getting him ready for a meltdown! The only thing that works is the vacuum cleaner! - but that isn't really getting to the root of the problem, I know.
What can I do to get my happy smily baby back?
