Topic: All solids tricks required... Posted: 10 June 2009 at 9:52am |
DS loves his booby and his small amounts of sweet solids: pureed fruit, banana porridge, sometimes kumara/pumpkin but he can sniff out meat or lumps a mile away.
I've tried mixing tiny amounts of age-appropriate meat meals into the sweet stuff, given him strips of steak to suck on but no go. Also, once he gets the taste, he refuses to eat any more and will therefore go without a meal which can disrupt his night sleeping.
Any suggestions? I'm not too worried but am aware he needs the iron.

Rather than steak chips, what about chicken nuggets? He just might not like beef but might like chicken.. Daniel was like that for a while. If he really doesn't like meat though he will still be getting his iron needs through milk etc

I often mixed banana in with everything Hannah was eating.
It's pretty feral (mince and banana?! ), but it worked.
I just gradually decreased the amount of banana until she was eating food normally.

Yeah pear is a good thing to mix in with stuff or apple. Luke often ate apple, kumara and mince...
Just keep trying I guess

Heya I feel a bit of your pain - We aren't on to meat yet but DS requires a cube of apples with all of his vege meals or he won't have a bar of it!
I was going to suggest you give him iron fortified baby cereals if you are worried about his iron intake.
Don't know about the lumps but have you looked at baby led weaning? Does he like other finger foods?
Good luck!

Thanks for suggestions all.
He likes his finger foods - marmite on cruskits, gingernuts - just not the meaty ones, but will try a chicken nugget.

I started with a lean lamb mince cooked with grated kumera, carrot, courgette and a very week vegie stock. I had to puree that again in the food processor to get it quite fine.
They do say to persevere as it may take a few goes when it comes to introducing new foods.
Good luck!
