    Posted: 17 June 2009 at 10:20am
Sam has been waking up at least 4-5 times a week, climbing into bed with me and chattering away like it's the middle of the day! It's not though, it's always between 3 and 5AM.

He asks me where things are, and asks to put his shoes on, and often wants milk or water or cheese or some other item.    Sometimes I will give him water but he doesn't really want it, he's just making conversation.

I try and get him to fall asleep in bed with me but he's not interested, so after 15 minutes MAX I put him back into his bedroom and he sleeps until 9AM!

I'm so confused. He's not upset and he doesn't need anything, and he certainly goes back to sleep alright, it's just annoying being woken up so early for a chat.

Any ideas why he might be doing this? He talks ALL day so not sure why he feels the need to talk in the middle of the night.

Is it a case of doing it just because he can?

If Daniel did that as soon as he came into my room I'd take him straight back to his own bed. I'm sure he would figure that it's not going to work after a few days of that.

ITA with Stacey, I would be putting him straight back to bed no arguments. Are you sure he is actually awake? My niece is shocking for coming out of the bedroom and having a full conversation with someone, seemingly wide awake but has no recollection of it in the morning. I actually think she started around 2.5/3yrs.

I'm pretty sure he is awake as he looks at me and if I go to get up he says 'LET'S GO!' because being woken up at that time of the morning makes me grumpy and often I'll put him back into his room saying 'LET'S GO!'.

I might try not speaking to him next time he does it and just stick him straight back into bed, as he goes back to sleep almost instantly.   Hopefully he'll get bored with it after a few days of me not answering his questions.

Thanks ladies.

Tom would do that if he could get out of his cot! As it is, if he is brought into our bed in the wee hours he will natter away happily. I just ignore it! He seems to speak clearest in the morning and practices new words too......grrrrr!!! but cute

Haha well I do that but have no idea in the morning and now Jake does the same thing! You wouldn't know we were still asleep. I've heard of a few kids that wake up and chat away in the early hours of the morning though - Jake does this too. He tried to climb into our bed once but DP made it clear that wasn't happening and he hasn't tried again. We have to leave his door open coz his room gets too cold but if Sam persists maybe you could try a gate across his door??
Sorry lol I did abit of a ramble...
