how long after you came off the pill did you get your first proper AF (not the withdrawal AF)? and what pill were you on?

since I came off the pill mid April, I haven't an AF since then (67 days). I was on the mini pill and when I came off the combination pill last time I didn't have any trouble.

TIA

I just stopped taking mine when AF came so I just had a normal cycle (31 days) it did take me 6 cycles until I ovulated though.

Happy birthday to your little lady!

I stopped taking the pill Ney Years Day 2007, got an AF of types about the 3rd of Jan, and discovered I was pregnant Feb 07 so I'm probably of no use to you but didn't want to read and run

I went off the pill (noramin) late Jan and still haven't had a proper AF! the closest I got was a super duper light 2 day bleed on the 14th of feb and then every now and then since i have been getting a little bit of spotting that lastest around 5 days.

But still no real AF yet

Hi, I was on the mini pill for 8 years and when I came off it I didn't notice any change to my cycle ie. I got AF within about 30 days of stopping.

Jem, i never got a heavy period . Every one was 2-3 days and was super light. It was actually heavier when I was on the pill!

Jem- sounds quite similar to me. Have the occassional spotting but no AF. Are you taking anything to help bring on AF and regulate it?

very frustrating, as I am super clucky at the moment.

No im not taking anything to regulate AF just very unpatiently patiently waiting IYKWIM.

The doc said to just be patient and not to watse $$ on anything to try speed things along but i am getting ver impatient with all the waiting.

I am also like you and very frustrated and extremely clucky, almost cant handle it at the mo.

And im sick of doing the fortnightly test to see if the reason AF hasn't come back is coz i have a bun in the oven but NOOOO.

Im just waiting till the end of july when i am aloud to go back to the doc and get tests done

I was on microgynon for 5 years, came off it in March and got withdrawal bleed two days later as expected, then straight into a 28 day cycle. Having said that I think that might have been an anovulatory cycle as the next cycle when I got pg would have been a lot longer going by ov date.

Hey all,
I stopped taking the pill on the 7th April, and got PG before AF. So I cant help you there, but I have heard that Vitex can help to regulate your cycle?? Its a herbal thing, I have the liquid form (tastes so gross) but also comes in tablet form, and you get it from a health shop.   I MC a month ago, and will take it next cycle (if AF comes), apparently dont take it when PG, so I stopped this cycle after ovulating.
Good luck!
Oh its not very expensive, like $20 for a bottle of the tablets, my liquid stuff was only $15.

I was on Levlen (which is exactly the same as the Microgynon I used to take) - been on them for the best part of 15 years. I came off it in March (prior to gall bladder surgery) and fell straight back into a 28day cycle - with the exception of the AF straight after surgery which was 26days. I was surprised at how quickly things have settled down. I initially went on the pill to help with the horrible AFs I had as a teenager - I now remember why!!! Tis ok though, tells me my body is back to normal and I can put up with it for a while

I just ordered some Vitex online, so hopefully that helps. only stopped breastfeeding a couple of weeks ago, so suspect my hormones are a bit out of balance and confused, so hopefully this helps evens things out.

I was on Norimin, stopped the pill at the end of the packet and had AF as per usual, 38 days later I got my first AF off the pill and the next cycle was 29 days.

ETA - my AF is also lighter now than it was when I was on the pill. Only really 3 days of bleeding.

Hi girls,

I was wondering the same thing, Iv been tried on my 5th different types of pill to help with periods and pain (I have endo). I always run 3 months together as told by my doc to avoid pain each month.

I had endo surgery about a year and a half ago but they couldnt get it all and my AF is still quite painful.

Im thinking of going back to the original pill i was on LEVLEN as its the only one that didnt give me other problems.

We are looking at starting to TTC in dec 09 so I was wondering what you ladies think of going back to LEVLEN for next 6 months or going off them completely?

How long will my body take to get back to normal cycles after taking LEVLEN again in your experiences?

Hi Nicola,
I was on Levlen and it worked well for me. I was on it for about 4 years and coming off it hasn't been a problem at all for me. I stopped taking it in March and with the exception of one month, have fallen straight back into my usual 28 day cycle. I too used to skip 'periods' but this was never a problem for me (didn't have break thru bleeding issues).
I hope this helps you. Given your situation you probably would want to go back onto Levlen, but I would think about coming off sooner than you need to, just to give your body some breathing time.

Good luck hun

Claire

I was also on levlen/microgynon and used to skip periods all the time (I was very naughty and would run my 6 months supply all in a row.. might be why it took 6 months for my body to start ovulating when I stopped).

Everyone is different, I have never had a regular cycle. My cycle is a different length every month (made TTC tricky one month it could be 30 days the next 40 days).

For that reason I wouldnt go back on BCP if you are planning to TTC in the near future.

Just remember just because you are bleeding, does not mean you are ovulating. Not a nice thought, but something to keep in mind. Likewise you could be ovulating away and not getting a period!

TTC can be a very frustrating time.

wow interesting to hear how everyone is to different!
i was on brevinor- id been on the pill for 10 years constantly and been on 4 types of pill in that time (brevinor for the last 4 years) coming off has been a bit of a nightmare (other than the face i dont gain weight as easily as i did so yay!) ive had pimple breakouts, mood swings (poor DH!) tiredness the works. my first real AF was at 36 days and not too bad, very little cramping luckily and not unbearably heavy. lasting about 5 days. i came off the pill in march and thats the only AF ive had! im now at day 50 in this cycle and FF says i ovd 18 days ago..but no AF and no BFP! so ill be darned whats happening to my body..
for some of us, our bodies take a while to get back to normal...my doc said it can take up to a year (!!!!!) but is normally 2-3 months. im hoping AF will turn up soon then things will start happening for us! thinking of takign vitex once this cycle ends...
good luck to everyone!! baby dust to you all!

AF arrived yesterday and my body seems to be making up for the lack of AF for the past couple of months. Also started taking Vitex, so hopefully my body gets back to normal now.

I came off the pill - Estelle 35 (after being on it for 10 years) in May and got my first AF at day 32. The first day I had sharp period pains - had forgotten that pain but brought back memories from my teenage years!

I am half way through my next cycle so hopefully things continue to the schedule and we are all go to TTC in August.
