Gah! Jackson wont stay in his highchair.

He will eat for about 5 mins then scream and arch his back. Once I get him out he will go and grab his bowl that id taken off his highciar, then walk around eating his food (And ours!) So hes definately still hungry, just prefers to finish food off.

its no big deal, it just means I have a hell of a mess at night to clean up with him smearing everything into the carpet.

How do I get him to "Want" to stay in it? I was thinking about putting him in his cot for a minute every time he starts to scream but im worried its not the best way to go about it. Any advice?!

I'd put his bowl away & not let him have food unless he's in there? Don't force the issue though, just put it out of his reach & then take him out. He wants more he's got to go back in?

Dunno if it will work but maybe worth a shot?

We just have a rule that if you want to eat, you do it at the table, sitting in your chair (or highchair for Sophie). I have some friends whose children are all over the show with food and stand on their chairs at the table and it just grates me so much (I am not very tolerant of other peoples children ).

One friend has a very similar issue with her almost 2yo, and it is all about control. We were talking about her boy today and she admitted that whilst she was *trying* to be strict, she was very hap-hazard about it so he was getting mixed signals

You (and my friend) maybe need to decide if it is a big deal or not and set a rule. Most day care/creche/kindies have a strict rule about sitting down to eat and her boy is fine there (monkey). Personally I would be very not OK with cleaning food of the carpet. Also how do you cope when you eat at someone else's house?

Ummmmm hard one my bubs is 8 and a half month old and I'm having battles - same as you 5 minutes isthe max she wants to be in there. We are both bad and will put her into her exersaucer and she happily eats - I no that isn't the best idea either but we fed her in there where I would love her to be figuring it all out herself. Same as when we got out for lunch ... I'd love her to be happy in the highchair but again 5 minutes at the most and then she screams - does it get better????
