I posted this in another forum (First baby etc) and was wondering what you girls thought.

What do you think is a good age gap between your kids from experience and from what you have been told.

Let me know what you think

Hmmm, NOT 10 years! We had no end of trouble with my stepdaughter when Maya was born. But some of that was the whole stepparent thing as well.

Serioulsy tho, we would have liked a smaller age gap but things took a little longer than anticipated (we started TTC around Maya's 2nd birthday and found out we were preg with the twins on her 3rd).

Although the age gap is looking to be a good thing. Maya is 100% involved in the pregnancy, is loving shopping for baby stuff for her sisters, and can't wait to be a big sister. Plus dealing with morning sickness was easier because she's at kindy so I could rest a lot, and with our 'baby' turning out to be twins the age gap is a blessing in disguise.

I do worry a bit about the whole jealousy thing when the babies arrive, especially if they are prem and need special care etc. She can be a demanding little madam, and she hasn't had to share us for the first 3 1/2 years of her life so I am anticipating a few road bumps on the way.

Mum had four of us under 5, and she reckons it was really full on for the first few years, but as we all headed for school it settled down and we (mostly) played together pretty well.

I had Harry at 36 (turned 37 three weeks later) so didn't want the gap to big. We started trying for No2 when Harry was about one and a half but it took about six months to get pregnant and then we lost the baby at 10 weeks but luckily got pregnant again the next month.   These things do happen in there own time though so don't be to dissapointed if the gap turns out to be bigger than you wanted.

Having said that there is two and a half years between Harry and Alex and not that I know any difference but for us it has worked well. Harry is toilet trained and can entertain himself...and still has an afternoon sleep which is a life saver.

Good luck with whatever you decide

Jake and Taine are 16 months apart. i think that differnet age gaps all have their advantages and disadvatages. With a smaller one we've found that the boys get on eraly well, however, jake didn't really understand the concept of "gentle", luckily taine is relatively durable.

Well personally I would have quite liked to have had a 3year age gap but due to my first complications after having Paige and then my marriage break - up ...it never happened. So now Paige will be 7 when her little brother will be born.

A close gap is great when theya re little as they can play together and keep each other occupied and for Mum and Dad it means babyhood is all over and done with in a shorter time..however that can be tough and there are proven troubles with behaviour and "weaker parenting skills"...stuff like that....

The thing I like about our age gap now is Paige is a little helper. She is very excited and wants to do things and it will be great to be able to leave her with baby while I take a shower or whatever as she is like a Little Mum! Also it teaches her at her age different skills to what they would have if they were closer.

50/50 really!!!

There is almost 5 years between Josh (13) and Brooke (8) so there is about 8 1/2 btween my youngest and this baby. Still don't know how I feel about starting all over again, but at least this most of my friends will have babies too. 5 years you would think they don't argue etc... NOPE NOT A CHANCE! and I have a friend whose kids are 8 years apart and they argue heaps too so I guess no matter what the age gap they will argue... so if thats not what you are worried about like Kelpa said have them close your 'babie' years are over quicker and not spread out or have them further apart. I have no advise as I haven't had any close together except for they will still find a reason to argue. Must admit my kids are both good helpers so it helps that way....

Ok in our family we have the followin brothers and sisters- from my dad and his marriages and their previous marriages- hang on- CONFUSED haha :
Rona(27 yrs old), Lyle(25), Dwane(24), Clint(23), Steven(21), Me (18), Digger(17), Tyson(16), Rhyse(13) and Raigan who is (8).
Hang on have to count that again... Yup- there's 10 kids.
But we're from a few different families... we're all half and steps etc...
But my opinion- I'd like to have mine pretty close together, but we'll just have to see how it happens. Can't make it happen any faster than you want it to- so take it as it comes. Then we won't be able to get rid of the little buggers for years. Haha.

I have a soon to be 10 year old step daughter from my husband's previous relationship and she is very excited about having a half brother. We would ideally like to have around 18 months between our first child together and second child but you can't always plan these things and sometimes it can take ages to fall pregnant with second child so will see how things go.

I have Ella who is 2 next week, and am due with our second in August. The gap was a combination of me wanting to have them close enough to be able to play together and relate to each other. As well as, more selfishly, wanting to do the nappy, night-duty, staying home full-time thing in one block.

well i have 43mins age diff with the boys lol. But seriously if i had only had one bub (and if me and my ex had worked out!!) i think I would have liked 2-3years age diff so i could enjoy that first couple of years one on one then the older would be off to kindy so could still have one on one with the next bub. My brother and I are 9 years diff with me being the stepchild and we have a really close relationship although when he was about 4 I really disliked him as he used to tell tales to my stepdad but now we have a stronger bond that alot of full siblings.

I'm not completely sure yet but I'm thinking a 3 or 3.5 year age gap. There are a few things I need to sort out before we decide whether we will/when we will TTC. It will be strange planning a baby as Ella was a surprise

personally I think I would want at least 3 years of my body to myself again before TTC - and bonding time with bubs, but i guess it depends on the individual I am sure that smaller and bigger gaps both have different pro's and cons...
