How many breast feeds should a 11 month old get a day? Is there a minimum amount of milk they should be receiving? I'm asking because one of my breasts doesn't seem to make much milk and i use it for one feed a day because of this. I'm just worried she isn't getting enough milk but does drink a lot of water(which is good). We are looking at weaning her(maybe) when she turns one next month or at least giving her one breast feed and the rest with formula but she doesn't seem to like formula.
Any advice is most appreciated

I think she'll drink as much as she needs, if she needed more she would let you know! Some days my girl will only have 3 BF's, others she'll have 7! At 11 months she will be getting the bulk of her nutrtional needs met via the foods she eats, so as long as her diet is pretty good just go with the flow.

hmmm not too sure, maybe trying contact la leche legue as its right up their alley, alternatively, my formula tin says 4 bottles a day and 2 - 3 solids so maybe that could be a good guide to BF?

we're doing a BF morning and night, and Natalie also has one bottle of formula a day (sometimes only 50mL, although the last couple of days it's been the whole 150mL bottle!). She also has heaps of water.

I know the feeling that you're not producing much milk - once we dropped to just 2 feeds a day, it felt like there was nothing there (and the one time i tried expressing I only got about 10mL!)...but I also believe she is getting enough (one post-BF morning vomit showed me that!). I did notice once the day BFs were dropped (her choice, not mine!) her apetite for solid food picked up even more, and she also started requiring morning and afternoon snacks.

my son who is 10months generally has 3breastfeeds a day although if we are out he sometimes misses the day one just because he's too busy and isnt interested. i have also stopped feeling full and my boobs feel completely normal (like they did before breastfeeding). I was also starting to wonder if he was getting enough until a few weeks ago when i ended up in hospital for a day and he had formula - i missed 2 feeds and went through the night without feeding and man oh man was i full!!! so am quite confident now that he is getting enough.
Im sure your girl will be fine. They are pretty good at self regulating.

I'm lucky (if you can call it that ) that if she's drained one side and isn't getting enough out for her liking, she bites me to let me know so we can change sides

I agree with the others tho, I rarely "feel" full these days, yet she is still having 6-8 feeds a day most days and when she pulls off you can see the milk dribbling out her mouth. She does have very short snacky feeds tho, each feed probably only lasts 3-4 minutes max.

I wouldn't worry too much. Plunket say 500ml of milk/milk equivalent at 1 year, that includes cheese, yoghurt, milk on cereal etc, so when you think about their total daily intake, it's not actually that hard to get to the 500ml.

My 11mth old usually has 4 breastfeeds a day but if we are out and about he will miss the mid afternoon feed easy enough, I figure he'll take as much as he wants / needs and when he pulls off and refuses to go back on (sometimes its just that hes been distracted) then he must be satisfied. I only feel full if one of our regular feeds has been missed, so say we do the mid morning feed and then not again til bed time then they will be quite heavy but if all the regular feeds are consumed then they feel quite normal too. Hayden also favours my left side at the moment, through the 11mths its been different sides at different times no idea why though, I have no idea if the right boob isnt as productive as the left or what the story is but he will only stay on right boob for 5 mins or so and left boob for 10/15mins and its only then he really settles in for a good drink.

My boy was on 3 feeds at 11 months. If your baby doesn't like formula you can start to wean straight to cows milk from now on. I started Alex with one cows milk bottle instead of the midday bf from about 10 months. It took him about a week to get the hang of it and start drinking the whole amount. Then after 2 months i dropped the morning feed and 2 weeks later the night one. My breasts coped really well doing it this way, no discomfort at all.

Like you by that stage of bf i didn't get that fullness even when i went without feeding him for a whole day. I think when you start to wean your supply can drop off a bit but Alex was quite happy and if they weren't they'd certainly let you know. His nappies were much wetter when we got to cows milk only.

My DD was having about 3 feeds at 11 months, then at 12 month she was just morning and night. I'm sure she is getting plenty so wouldn't worry! As long as milk is being taken fromt he breast you will still produce. My friends DD is still breast feeding at 14 months a couple of times at night and couple of times during the day and she really struggles to express now.

But yeah, she could probably start her on cows milk soon if she wont drink formula.
