We just got our little man's birth cert yesterday and although it asked for occupations on the form, it doesn't have them on the cert.
I agree with MamaPickle - be creative!!
Can't remember what I put on the form but nothing is on the certificate so I guess its only for statistics....wouldn't really matter, put something way out!!
ETA: That's not what I put down as I was on Maternity leave. However now I work 15hours a week as a S/W Programmer and the rest of the time I'm a SAHM. I am still stumped what to put down as my occupation as the majority of my time is not doing my 'professional job'.
I had the same dilemma when we got married. They had quite strict rules about it for your marriage cert but it actually goes on there so maybe that's why? You had to put your last occupation if you weren't working ... I was thinking of putting retired But you had to put retired XXX if you were. And you couldn't just put manager you had to say what you managed.
I think on C's birth cert here they only asked for DH's occupation
I think it is just for stat purposes, and also in centuries to come when out descendants search their family tree (as in Who Do You Think you Are) they will be able to see all this info recorded
Here in the UK they do print your occupation on the birth cert and I was too embarrased to say I didnt have a real job (worked on our own websites selling stuff that never sold ha ha) so I put down my last job which was Cust Serv Helpdesk Manager - silly now I think about it but it made sense at 5 weeks post partum!!
