Topic: Stretch mark creams? Posted: 10 July 2009 at 1:16pm |
I am confused at what to buy for my stretch marks. I have used the sample of Palmers cocoa butter concentrated massage cream that came with my bounty pack and don't think it did that much (although I know they won't magically disappear!)
So far i have only yuck stretch marks on my boobs, but want something for the tum aswell.
I saw at the chemist there are two other stretch marks creams made by palmers:
The Palmers cocoa butter massage cream (not concentrated)
and another two palmers organic ones - either in a lotion or a cream. - why do they have so many choices!
Or is bio-oil or derma oil best?

I use both - bio oil in morning and palmers at night.
I have also heard of the living nature beautiful belly oil but do not know of anyone that has used it so not sure if it is effective. I am going to try that next though once my other stuff runs out.
At the end of the day i think strechmarks are genetic and you either get them or don't. Still nice to think you are doing something that might just minimise them though!

I don't think the creams do work - they're just a marketing thing. Stretch marks occur under the skins surface so putting something on the top layer isn't really going to work. But hey, it makes us feel better, and I'm still a sucker for the creams etc.
I have bio-oil and the Palmers Cocoa-butter stuff. I prefer the Palmers. I like the smell and find that bio-oil is too greasy

Sorry to say I'm with everyone else - if you're going to get them, you're going to get them no matter what!! I do use the Palmers Cocoa Butter Massage Lotion and although it hasn't stopped me getting stretch marks (I have them on my lower tummy, under my belly button) my specialist often comments on how soft my tummy is LOL
In saying that, my mum never got many, if any, stretch marks, so I'm on the lucky side where genetics are in my favour - it's just that I'm having two at a time instead of one like Mum did, so I think it's inevitable that I got some.

yes unfortunately I used 2 lots of Palmers cocoa butter and one of bio oil, still got them
luckily not on my boobs yet, but my stomach is ruined! my mum has 4 kids, never got them either, so in saying genetic thing, Im not so sure on that theory, I do believe its skin type, mines always dry.

I have them on my boobs and butt from my first pregnancy - and am hoping they wont get any worse this time around. I can see myself bathing in bio oil for the rest of this pregnancy

unfortunately they are un-avoidable... no amount of cream or oil will stop them
but i have found that using the bio-oil morning and night has minimised the redness...they are more silvery these days...
anything with a really high vitamin E content is also really good
both of these are pricy tho...

I don't have any yet...but am also of the impressin that if you are going to get them then you are going to get them. I am using good old Olive oil in the evening and a natural cream - Mahu in the mornings...the main thing I find it good for is it helps the itchy boobs/tummy thing...and if it does help the stretch mark thing then woohoo...but Im not holding my breath

I been using The Aromatherapy Company 'Aroma Mother' Massage Oil with Lavender Essential Oil. I've been putting in on my belly morning and night and don't have any stretch marks. Its about $18-20 a bottle and I'm halfway through my 2nd, so it last well (and smells yummy)
When the first bottle ran out I bought the egg Belly Butter but found it horrible, so now only use it as hand cream.
I already have a few stretchmarks on my boobs so haven't been so diligent with bothering to put anything on them!

I didn't get any until about 24-26w I think loulee?? It doesn't surprise me in hindsight - from 24w is when I noticed substantial growing taking place and the difference in my tummy between 24w and now is amazing.

I noticed a couple of very small ones under belly at 35weeks. A few days later they were 10 times the size and 10 times the amount.
I thought I had done well getting to 35weeks without!
Also wanted to say that I didn't put anything on boobs and no stretch marks. 2 and a half bottles or bio oil, 1 thing of palmers lotion and a thing of palmers oil used on belly - and that's where i got the stretch marks

Apparently it is a genetic thing, you either get them or you don't. Best person to ask is your Mum to see if she did.
