Hi, I am looking at starting to use mcn (better late than never, I hope!) and after reading the huge amounts of info about them and popular styles have decided to order the trial itti bitti's and honeychild day and night trial, and maybe the ecobubs wool pocket or BerryPlush (eek so many choices!)

Anyway, after piles of reading I still have questions which I am guessing the wealth of knowledge on here can answer, so,
* Are soakers/longies for nighttime protection? Which nappies do you need to use them with?

* How many inserts do you need for daytime use? (I know this is a 'how longs a piece of string' type question)

* What is the best kind of clothing/pants/pjs for over mcn? My poor girl has my thighs and bum (unfortantuely my thighs dont have the super cute chubby rolls that hers do ) so pants/ tights can be quite fitting already without mcn

I hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance!
Susan

If you have got a trial of each of the itti bitti's one is an all in one & for day time you won't need any extra inserts & the snap in itti bitti you could get an extra set of inserts per outer (cheaper) & reuse the outer during the day providing your bubs doesn't pooh, otherwise the whole thing will need changing. You can get little boosters to help extend time that the nappy is on.

I find Itti Bitti's are only a little more bulky than a disposable & he still wears the same size clothing. You could get the extenders to go on body suits.

1. Soakers/longies can be used in the day time too... but many people use them overnight for added protection from leaks. From my own experience, a sposie wouldn't even hold in Han's night time wees and she'd wake up soaked. The only thing that worked was a pocket stuffed as full as poss and then a wool cover over top.

But sometimes they are good to use during the day too.. just in case ya know?

2. Inserts for daytime - really depends on the babe and what age/stage. At about 6 months I'd expect 2 microfibre inserts to last about 3 hours... ish. But then there's all sorts of fibres you can choose from, so that changes things too!

3. Longies
Larger sized pants?
Pants from those who do cut-for-cloth?
Stretchy stretchy fabrics
Sew your own?

Yay- thanks for the replies!
Sew my own?! I wish, my skills are sadly lacking in that department. More questions
* Where do you get longies/soakers from? My skills are sadly lacking in the knitting dept as well
* Who/where cuts- for-cloth?
*Are fitted/pockets best for night? Rather than an AIO?
*Where do you get bodysuit extenders? Would be handy even now as bub is long in the body

Longies or soakers - you can get them from:
Tweedle
Mother's Instinct
CraftFetish
(this is not an exhaustive list by any means)

There are a few brands which are cut for cloth, including Earthlings, but I haven't found we've needed special clothes to go over MCNs at all.

There's no set answer as to what's best at night. AIOs in general aren't absorbent enough. Personally we usually use fitteds (because I like the 'insurance' of an extra layer) but I've also had success with (Ecobubs) pockets and if you use longies over the top like Nikki suggested (nice to see you over here, btw Nikki, been a while!) then you still have that 'insurance' iygwim.

Bodysuit extenders or onesie bummsies you can get again from a bunch of places these days including CraftFetish, Mother's Instinct, or Exquisite Baby.

Yay, thank you for your reply. It is reassuring to know that going cloth doesnt mean having to get new/more clothing. Thanks for the links too!
