Topic: Sleeps at 10 months Posted: 24 July 2009 at 11:34am |
How long and what times are your babies having day sleeps at around 10 months?
I used to put Jackson to bed at 9:30am for an hour and a half, and then the same in the afternoon at about 3:30pm.
These days though he is spending ages playing in the cot, but then wanting to sleep for the same amount of time. Obviously it is not working because then he is not tired enough for his afternoon sleep.
Any hints?

At 10 months we were doing naps 9.30am-11am and 1pm-3pm. At one year old we dropped the morning nap and now they only do 12.30pm anywhere up to 3pm. Truthfully we could have dropped the morning nap around 10 or 11 months but we were stubborn and terrified to only have one nap haha.
Maybe try dropping the morning nap and start the afternoon nap earlier more around midday. You'll probably find he just has a longer afternoon nap instead.

From memory Jake was going down about 10/10.30 for up to 2 hours in the morning, then a short arvo nap (2.30/3ish) ... but from 11-14 months he started dropping the afternoon one and the morning one gradually moved to 12ish.

Joel has just this week started to drop a sleep....mainly cos he spends an hour playing in his cot in the morning so I give up and get him up again...he has just gone down now and I can hear him standing up rattling the sides. Once he goes to sleep he will sleep till about 3.30.

Caden was like that, I would put him to bed at round 10 and he would spend ages playing, then still sleep for the same amount of time, which made getting him to have an afternoon sleep really hard.
So now, he has dropped the afternoon sleep, I used to put him down at about 2.30, but now, he goes to bed at about 11.30 and sleeps until 1.30-2(he is asleep now) and then he has lunch and will play happily for the afternoon.
Because of this, he has dinner early between 4.30 and 5.30 and then is bathed and in bed by 6.30 generally, which actually works out good for us.

Ava sleeps from 10-11.30ish in the morning then 2.30-3.30 in the afternoon. If we go out, she doesnt get much of a nap at all. For example, today she had a full morning nap but then only 20 minutes for her afternoon nap and she seems fine!

Thanks for the replies. Scared to drop a nap!! But I think that's what I may have to work towards.
A couple of times he's missed his afternoon nap, and coped ok, so I think he would probably cope with one nap per day.
I kind of like him going to bed a couple of times a day though! So much easier to get things done!!
