Topic: pocket nappy no longer waterproof? Posted: 23 September 2009 at 9:18am |
apologies if this has been posted before....
I have just started trying some Honeychild naps that I bought off Trademe before my son was born. They are a small although he is a bit of a runt so they are still a bit big on him.
However they seem to wet through - even with two inserts stuffed in during the day (so fairly regular changes).
I'm wondering if perhaps they are more used than I was led to believe and the waterproofing on the cover is no longer?
Or perhaps he is just too small for them still?
I would love some advice from those that have used Honeychild/Fuzzibunz. Am thinking of buying 1 new one to see if there is any difference - but maybe I should be trying a different system?

Hi there, I had this problem after a couple of pea pods I brought off trademe so I washed them approx 3-4 times without using suds and they seem to be a lot better now. Not sure if this will work for you but it did for us and I think it was just a soap sud buildup on the ones I brought...... Let me know if this works for you.

Heya, you could have a number of problems
1. the laminate on them has deteriorated and so making them nolonger waterproof
2. not enough stuffing inside them, or not the right typ of inserts for your bubby, Bubs all wet diferently, so you may need something that absorbs quickly closest to him inside the nappy IYGWIM? and then something to lock the fluid away under that, so microfibre on top then hemp or a bamboo insert
3. he could be too small for them and leaking out the sides and then that soaks onto the outside of the nappy.
Do you have any old fashioned flat nappies, i found the high cotton content really good for my heavy wetter, although yes a bit bulky.
some times its trial and error.
I found pockets not that great on my buba till he was about 4mnth old and could fit them in the leg better, I used fitteds with covers till then,
You could try Ecomoon OSFA pockets (im stocking them in my shop but you ca nget them from ecomoon.co.nz, the leg elastic is adjustable so you can get a really good fit around bubbys leg.
Hope some of that helps?

The other thing is that the nappy could have washing powder build up on the fleece so its not absorbing fast enough and therefore leaking. To combat that problem you can use some dishwashing liquid on the fleece or wash it in some white vinegar and baking soda. Theres a few threads you can find on here about stripping nappies
