Topic: Tummy hair in pregnancy Posted: 07 October 2009 at 12:01am |
I know there are other forum topics about it, but no one has commented on them for months! I'm just wondering how many women that are pregnant at the moment seem to have tummy hair growing on their tummy/abdomen??
I don't want to do anything about it incase I make it worse, I've always had a little bit of fine tummy hair around my belly button but since I've gotten pregnant it seems to have got darker and spread out! Makes scans and MW appointments kinda embarrassing when you have to show your tummy all the time!
I've read it's normal, I've read it usually disappears after baby is born, is there anyone out there who hasn't had it disappear?

I don't think mine increased, but as my belly grew, the fine hair stood right on end and looked rather odd (and looked thicker/darker but I'm not sure it actually was). My baby is 6 months old now and it's back to normal.
I personally would leave it well alone; and don't be embarrassed with MW's etc - they've seen it all before!!

I had it too and it totally freaked me out lol. I didn't touch it though and it disappeared a few months after the birth.

I have fine blonde downy hair on my belly now (and I ususally have very little body hair). I'm not worried - as someone else said - MW and sonographers will have seen it all ( and then some!) before.

Mines not dark but does stand on end too I have noticed. And its a natural part of pregnancy so I wouldnt worry too much especially what MW might think as im sure shes seen it 100 times...

nkap - There is an old wives tale saying that a hairy tummy during pregnancy can indicate you're having a boy. So the hair is due to the higher testosterone levels running through your body.
I'm not sure if this is a valid claim, but I have noticed more hair on my tummy...and I'm having a boy.
I wouldn't worry about it really, I'm sure it's all been seen before. I distinctly remember someone telling me that you lose all your dignity during pregnancy and labour anyway

I'm sure it will. Have you got the linea nigra (line up the middle of your tummy) as well?
A lot of people say thats an indication of boys but I don't think it is. I think it just depends on skin type.

Yeah ive got quite a dark red line going down my tummy and can see lots of vains aswell. I think because my skin is quite fair.
There are lots of old wives tales!

... I just asked my husband to check out my tummy and tell me if he thought I was looking a bit hairy. He told me I'd changed and walked off!
Funny!!
