Topic: Air in tummy?? Posted: 12 October 2009 at 8:53am |
I get this occasionally when I'm not preg but its been way WAY worse since. I get what I assume to be air caught in my stomach/diaphragm. Its excruciatingly painful and I can barely move, I basically curl up in a ball and moan I found last night that leaning back in the lazyboy took away the pain but if I sat up again it all came back. It gets right up under my ribs so I feel like I can't breathe coz it'll hurt and that whole area burns and feels like someones stabbing me kinda.
Anyway It can last anywhere from 1/2 an hour to 4+ - last night after sitting on the lazyboy for an hour it disappeared then it came back again 2 hours later Does anybody else get this or know what causes it??
ETA when I say burning its not like reflux/indigestion. I get that too up but this is completely different!!

Yeah I used to have that, kinda like a bubble you can poke lol is it around under your rib area??'
Not help other than that? Maybe try drinking 1/4 ts of baking soda in a big glass of water, around 400-500mls. This will help pass gas

yea i get it real bad too. i actually got stuck on my bathroom floor for an hour a couple months ago after having gastroenteritis cos there was so much gas in my system but it was like a big air bubble kinda stuck there. i found eventually if i rolled onto my side then back and so on it would finally make its way down. make sure what ever your doing your not trying to not fart. lol. sounds silly but my nephew hated farting in public so the gas would get stuck and he was in heaps of pain

LOL I have no probs farting if I need too - luckily it always happens at home!! I make myself burp too which sometimes helps.
I do the baking soda trick too Kel which sometimes works but yesterday it was like I didn't eat soon enough y'know? Then my lunch trapped the air then wham a couple of hours later agony! Then when I took the baking soda all it did was make me throw up
Yeah the air bubble sounds right - sometimes it actually distends my tummy and its sooo hard but then last night I could kinda push it around!
Really good to know I'm not the only one anyway I have huge sympathy for colicky babies now coz they must experience something similar.
Thanks chickies!

All the descriptions about trying to take a breathe in being excruciating sounds like when i get bad indigestion. I didnt realise it was indigestion cos i didnt think it felt like that.........i couldnt breathe in cos of the excruciating pain, but i noticed the two times i got it was when i reheated singapore noodles, not when it was first cooked but when reheated.........very strange
I know you said its not indigestion but just in case your idea like mine of indigestion is different then it prob wouldnt hurt to try some gaviscon etc or have some enos on hand also if it is trapped gas (which i believe is another form of indigestion anyway)

Umm what you're describing sounds like the earlier symptoms of my gallstone pain episodes.
If it is gas Mylanta has the medicine in it (which completely slips my mind tonight) that helps break down gas bubbles and is fine in pregnancy.

Oooh theres stuff that helps??? Yay!!
When I say its not indigestion I more meant its not uhm like heartburn or just an achey tummy or whatever. I can't walk but its really high up like really in my diaghram IYKWIM?! Good grief gallstones Hope not though I imagine it would've gotten worse by now wouldn't it? I started getting this air thing when I was 16 so :gulp: almost 10 years ago now - where did the time go??!!!
Anyway I'll get some mylanta and gaviscon and look into degas. THANKYOU!!!

I've gallstones, umm gallstone attacks is pain in your URQ (Upper right Quadrant) is extremely sharp and is supposed to be caused by eating fatty food! You could go to your doc and describe it to them and they might be able to tell you. But you do not want gallstones! It's awful.
However I think I get this type of pain too, had it tonight but it's not a gallstone attack TG! It's kinda like I need to pass wind but can't because it's at the top of my tummy not the bottom!! Man it hurts
