I have recently been diagnosed with Endometrioma (chocolate cysts) in both ovaries and am waiting for a Laparoscopy through the public system. Just wondering if anyone else has this condition or has had an endometrioma removed, and how this was done. I am not sure what to expect. Also, if you had one removed did you have more success TTC after? We have been TTC for 15 months with no luck.

Hey

I had surgery for endometriosis coming up two years ago. They suspected I had it from all that was going on but said they would not know what was going on until they went in. They said the surgery should take about 2hrs but it took close to 3.5hrs due to what they found. I ended up having the worst kind you could and so they had a lot to remove, there was also cysts but I am not sure what kind and then they had to do some other repairs.

You hear many stories from people and on the net about what to expect and how the recovery will go. I decided to ignore the bad ones and go in being positive and expecting the best. This ended up paying off and all went well.

I am not sure how much detail you are wanting and if it will be exactly the same. But you arrive, they do tests like blood pressure, temp, weight and so on. Then you are shaved and prep done for surgery - which is cleaning your stomach and below and putting on some yellow coloured anti-bacterial stuff. They take you in and you get put out which is not at all scary and is done quickly. When you wake you have a bit of pain but it's all monitored and totally fine. You know you have had surgery and it's not comfortable but not bad like I had expected. Then it takes about a week to two to get back to normal but initial recovery is pretty quick.

Surgery wise I had a small incision in my belly button, where they put the camera in to look around and guide them. Then three more smaller ones on my lower abdominal area - one right above my hair line and then two on the side slightly above that. That is where they put in small metal rods to cut away the bad stuff. Then they put a laser wand up your vagina to get it all as well and put a die through your tubes to stimulate things to help conceive.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. I know I wish I had someone I could ask specifics from before mine. I know it can be big and scary but it honestly is fine and all goes so much better than you expect.

As for the baby side of things I had surgery in Nov 07, managed to conceive but had a miscarriage in Jan 08 and two more since. We are now doing a natural fertility clinic thing to sort that out and it's all going really well and I wish we had not waited so long to do this. Again any questions on that front feel free to ask.

I wish you all the best in this process.
