Ok I take one of your questions is about our lovely IRD? - Ring them up and say that you are pregnant and would like to apply for family assitance and more info about the $1200 payout that they offer. They send you forms to fill out (after asking 100 questions on the phone about how much you earned in the last year, how much for the next year etc) and go from there - It's pretty easy once you get through!
Re: Birth Certificate - I had Arna in PN hospital but yours may be different - when I went to the PostNatal ward on the little table they had in the room was my bounty pack and next to it was the birth certificate application form and a freepost envelope - you fill it out and send it off to them when you have decided on babys name - a few weeks later you will get a copy of it in the post. I think you can only get the application form ONCE baby is here (ie in hospital)
Hope this helps!!

Waikato Hospital was the same as far as the birth certificate application form... when I went to the PostNatal ward with Kiya, it was beside the bed... my midwife got it for me when I went to the birthing centre after having Josiah.
To add to what Lena said, IRD give you 6 weeks from when you apply for Family Assistence to send a verified copy of the birth certificate to them. This gives you time to receive the original and get the copy organised.

For paid parental leave its just your earnings... for Family assistance they need both. (I am pretty sure on that ... I think)

Our Family Assistance is based on Nat's income... FA is paid to me, and is my sole income

ann, i think, but don't quote me, if you don't qualify for paid parental leave, you can get the $1200 lump sum payout when bubs is born.
as i'm an at home mum, this is what dean and i are applying for this time around. i'm hoping to get in touch with them today to find out about applying, so will let you know how i go

The $1200 is for anyone that is not taking paid parental leave for their job. You can get it either in a lump sum or paid out over 8 week's if you chose to get it in a lump sum you have to wait till the finacial year is over so not till April so I sugget if you are counting on that money get is paid out over 8 week's that is what we are doing it just get's paid with you FA. All you need to do is ring IRD word of advice before ringing make sure you have at least a half hour to spare they take ags to answer the phone.
