Yep me. If it weren't for just having a new baby I'd be on board too. As it is I think I need the stress release

I bit my nails for a long time too. I stopped about 5 years ago when I was helping Dad on the farm for calving season. Seeing them with cow poop underneath all the time was a great incentive to stop . I am so glad I did as now, when they don't break off, I finally have lovely looking nails. Good luck!

I did for yeeeaaars aswell up until recently!!
I went and spent about $100 to get fake nails put on (the ones that last like a month, then back fill etc etc)
It got me into the habit of stopping biting them, cos I'd just get a mouth full of yukky plastic!!!!
I made sure I got any replaced straight away that came off so I wasn't tempted to bite... So I think I ended up with fake nails for about 2 months- then I grew them out so I didn't have the weak yuck nails that had been hidden under the fake ones (although when the fake nails got near the end I pulled them off and used nail strengthner nail polish)
I'd tried sooo many different things before that, all the no bite stuff and painting them etc and it never worked for me. The 2ish months with having fake nails on really did cos trying to bite a hunk of plastic wasn't as appealing!
Definately reccommend it to anyone struggling to stop biting nails!!
Oh, and now I have the most BEAUTIFUL nails and love spending time painting them etc to make them look even better.....
(excuse my terrible spelling I'm exhausted and can't be bothered lol)

I stopped just recently as I decided I did not want DD to learn the habit/behaviour from me. My Mum bit her nails and I think thats where my sister and I got it from, but she stopped before my youngest sister was born and she has never bitten hers, so that is my incentive to stop. But I have been doing a lot of outside work lately and even though I have not bitten them they look terrible!

Best thing I did was get acrylic nails on :D havent bitten since!!! My advice to you however if you do decide to get nails put on - DO NOT go to Professionail at the malls, they're terrible, they ruin your natural nails and the product they use is full of harmful ingredients (cheap korean branded stuff) They get around it by putting it in proper branded containers.
But yea, thats my 5c

Interesting - I bit my nails to the point of bleeding for 28yrs of my life - until I made the decision to stop. I was in Amsterdam ( ) and just "decided" to stop. I have the occasional bite, but never anything too serious, and only if I am really really stessed. My reward is to get a manicure when they get too long, it helps me "want" to keep nice nails.

I'll quit! I tried last time I was preg and that got me nowhere. I do it whenever I'm bored/stressed/tired/worried/etc... Jakes started biting his nails though which I'm quite gutted about so yeah I really want to stop!
I use to bite them down to the skin then bite that off too now they kinda grow abit then I bite or pick them down again so I'm better than I was. Still wana quit doing it all together!

Chewing gum worked for me to start with. That and clear nail polish so there were no rough bits to bite on.
I like the idea of Acrylic ones.

not too bad. bit one nail and then remembered. Kept trying to bite and remembering....so the nail polish thing might be a good idea.

lmfao. Wow so many nail biters in here. I've done so my whole life as well. Didn't pick it up off my parents, but my uncle has the habit, and so does my younger brother. I went for 4-5 weeks not biting my nails..was so impressed........and then bit them all off the other night!...was highly stressed!...though I usually do it out of boredom. So I am quitting once again...can add it to my birthday resolutions :)

Ooo such a good idea... I'm going to join nail-biters anonymous too
My name is Jane and I have bitten my nails my whole life. Stress/boredom... anyways, it really annoys DH (and me!) so he would be eternally grateful if I stopped biting/picking at them.
I will add "quit nail biting" to my list of holiday hopes

I had acrylic nails done when I was about 14 to try stop biting but they snapped off. We were eventually told that your nails have to actually be a certain length before you get acrylics because otherwise they don't stay on well and they can damage your nail bed. I don;t know how accurate that is but maybe worth checking into. For those with no nails to speak of yourfirst goal might have to be to get them to a certain length?
Anyway I picked off one nail last night then remembered to stop I have the bad-tasting paint but with all the baking and kneading I do I can't use it coz it makes the food taste gross lol bad ae?!!
