I know I should put this under reflux, but don't know if people will see it ( I chose active topics so can see new posts, but others may not)

Any way, in m y research coffee & chocolate are a big no no if you are feeding a reflux baby. If you cut out coffee did it help your bubs???

TIA as I'm sitting down to a really uninspiring cup of hot water

I have no problem with coffee with Andrew. McKayla didnt have reflux. We had two days that I had to have her totally upright. She couldnt sleep ect and was crying hysterically. Went to the pediatrician (in South Africa) and he asked me what did I change in my diet. I was drinking loads of ice tea. As soon as I stopped drinking it she was fine.

I found that when I drank normal black tea the same thing happened. It appeared to be the tannine (sp?) in it.

With Andrew he has silent reflux and sometimes spills loads and loads and then he is totally fine again. We find with him if I have chocolate, normal tea, too much milk and dairy stuff that he starts spilling a lot.

I was told not to cut dairy out totally so he can built up some tolerance for it but not to go overboard. So I manage it by seeing when he starts spilling I just cut back again.

For some reason however coffee doesnt do anything to him. So perhaps see what change it causes in your baby and go from there.

Ohh that is so promising. I almost cried when I saw to cut those two out. I don't have chocolate that often but I have coffee everyday.

Will give it a few days without coffee & see if it makes a difference.

We have spilling with too much dairy but I've cut 99% out cause of our asthma/eczema issues anyway.

Coffee didn't seem to affect Callum's reflux, although I went off it during pregnancy and have really only got back into drinking it now so definitely wasn't having one a day.

Too much dairy did seem to make a difference. Chocolate, not so much

PS I was told peppermint tea really helped a friend of a friend with a refluxy baby .... might be marginally more exciting than hot water?

Unfortunately I did notice a big difference in Clara's reflux and 'unsettledness' after having a coffee - so I stayed off it until she weaned (except for the odd one when I knew it would be ages till her next feed).

But we have an espresso machine and the stuff it churns out is pretty strong - I wasn't surprised that it didn't agree with Clara. (I'm not sure how you drink your coffee?)

Chai tea is yummy!

And I snuck a bit of chocolate now and then

I don't drink Chai as it sucks without milk

I plunge my coffee & it's pretty strong. I usually have between 1-3 a day depending on what I'm doing. I was really good until this arvo, no headaches or anything but Alia was getting to me so I chilled having a coffee. Damn it!

Maybe I should start a support thread for the things we are giving up?

But I had three yesterday & we had a crap night. So today only having one it will be interesting to see how he is during the night. I haven't had chocolate for days
