Ok so bubs is nearly three....we will be at home for xmas but after that busy and then off for holidays...and our house is on market etc etc...so open homes and viewings thru out this xmas holidays.

Well our xmas tree and ALL the decorations are in storage (and we have a LOT)...and I cant be bothered getting it any or all out and having it in a corner out of the way (due to the marketing of house etc)...and if i want to get to it in storage it will take a bit or work...

Is bubs missing out??? by me not decorating and having a tree etc? She will have stockings (yes plural) and a PILE of presents and a second xmas day on new years when family from usa arrive...but do I have to put the tree up??? or decorate???

friends (??) gave me grief about her missing out on a xmas tree etc the other day and gave me the guilts...what do u guys think...am i depriving her? Im feeling bad about no tree etc now....but in later years she will live in a house which will be mega decorated (in and outside) at xmas!

We haven't had a Christmas Tree up for 3 years and not doing it again this year either now that Kayla is here! I don't think there is any point since you can't even put the pressies under there when the kids will rip them open too early anyway.

I did buy a super-small tree during the sales last year that I have let Alyssa decorate and put in her room, but other than that..nothing. Honestly, they don't care. I won't bother with one until next year.. maybe.. LOL

I have a tiny 1 foot tree which I put up it used to be our only tree when I first went flatting, and I don't use any other decorations its made me feel more christmasey.

BTW I've worked in RE and a house being marketed that's decorated for Christmas at christmas time is lovely.

Last year we just got a little table top fibre optic one and it was really pretty - maybe do something like that instead of a great big one!

I would put one up, just a few decos nothing too over the top, nice & simple but enough to radiate that happy family xmas environment.

When people come into your house looking at buying it like to see there life there & a xmas tree may give that wow factor, especially a young family.
That is why people bake bread etc when open homes are happening, it just may help.

On a personal level I love xmas & xmas trees with lights, & people are right kids may not be bothered or miss them, but I always remember back to my xmas's as kids & sitting under the tree always makes me fell warm & happy so I like to pass that on to my kids.

But I always say just do what you want to do, what works for some does not work for others, good luck with selling the house.

oohh a xmas grinch! LoL!!!!

its not necessary, there are other things you can do. From what i can hear coming from the lounge the tree just causes arguments and grief anyway!

Can you move some furniture into the garage to give more space for the tree so it doesn't look crammed? That is what we are going to do this year.
True about the looking nice and chirstmassy for the open homes, maybe don't need to go overboard but does give a nice feel :-)
Good luck with the selling of the house!

we have our tree up and its taking all my enrrdy keeping ethan away from it. I don't think she will be emotionally scarred by not having a tree. I you feel too guilty how about a compromise? E has a little fiber-optic xmas tree in his bed room.

a friend of mine started a new tradition for her family. they have nothing at all, but xmas eve they put everything up while the kids are asleep. they say it's lke xmas exploded and then xmas night it gets taken away again. that said, sounded like a LOT of work for me.

I highly recommend parking your tree inside a playpen if you have inquisitive toddlers! We bought one last year specifically for the tree, and will bring it out again soon.

Probably not a good look for open homes though....

re the playpen works till they climb over it..like mine did..lol though we have it slightly away from the lounge in the dinette bit and he's touched some decorations but mostly he's been great...next year on the other hand i think we will skip it with a 10 month old around again!:)

anyway i hate it when you are made to feel guilty by others i say if she doesn't care dont worry about it..

No tree here this year, I can't be bothered keeping putting it back together. I no longer have the playpen so have no where safe for it to be. I can' t see as not having a tree = deprived, far worse things a kid could go without

omg what is wrong with you people!! LOL I cant wait to put our xmas tree up! Its a bloody marvelous learning tool for kids :D! Thomas has had one at Kindy since the middle of november (dont ask) and hasnt touched it. Didnt touch the one at home last year either. We have big ornaments so he doesnt choke on little bits and my step dad made a big MDF base for it (fake tree) so it cant be pulled over.

Nope not at all, we haven't got our tree or any decorations up as we leave the country next week.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

we're not bothering this year, as we'll be in Aussie for Xmas, and Natalie is doing the 'helpful' thing atm (which is so cute ), but I don't want to spend all day having ornaments being brought to me! We definitely will in the future once she understands a little more about the whole thing. I also have very special decorations - none of that matchy matchy stuff here and every decoration was collected over the years from overseas, family etc so I don't want to tempt fate!

well i gave in....more comments and I decided to just do it so Ella can be told in time she had a tree...and so went off to farmers sale this arvo and got a tree - OMG her choice (its white!!!) and she chose decorations (cause even those are in storage!!!) so her "theme" was red and green on a white tree (blargh!)

we also got a few ornaments that are photo frames for each of us, and a 2009 one and a fairy for the top...heck in time this will be HER tree I guess....and at least it was all half price or so!!!

damn tho when I got home the silly checkout chick had only put half the decorations in the bag...so i called - yep they are there!!! ugh!!!

oh well tree is up...and a friend wants to give me some BIG tinsel for the staircase....so xmas kinda it is! ..I cant wait til we move and i can again put up the $$$1000's (yep no mistake there!) of lights we have to decorate inside and out!!!!
